James 4:7 (KJV)
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Let’s look at the word resist.
re·sist 1. To strive to fend off or offset the actions, effects, or force of.
2. To remain firm against the actions, effects, or force of.
Resistance is a force brought up against an opposing force to stop its actions. We resist the devil with the word of God to stop his actions against us; we replace his negative thoughts and accusations with the word of God. If the devil says you can’t, you say I can, because the word says I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. God has said for you to resist the devil, you can’t find in His word where it says God will resist the devil for you.
Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Saying I can do all things though Christ which strengthens me in the face of defeat is resisting the devil. If we are to resist him successfully then we need a stronger force than the devil to resist him with. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world, He the spirit of God in me is a greater power than the devil.
1 John 4:4 (KJV)
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
God could not tell us to resist the devil if we were unable to do that. When we speak the word of God to the devil, he has to flee. An old definition of flee means to run in terror and get away as fast as possible. Can you believe that! The devil is afraid of you when you speak God’s word to him. When you speak to him he has to leave right then and stop his operations against you. You may think that he hasn’t left, but the bible says he has to flee.
Things in your life will begin to get better from the time you resist the devil with the word of God and command him to flee and get out of your life.
