From the Table...
Mercy From Another Realm

In Genesis 45, Joseph reveals his identity to the very brothers who had betrayed him and sold him into slavery. Yet rather than seeking revenge or vindication, he responds with extraordinary mercy.

Somewhere along the way, through betrayal, suffering, and years of waiting, Joseph had come to see a larger story unfolding within his own suffering. His understanding of God's goodness had transformed the way he saw the people who had wounded him.

One of the most beautiful things about the wilderness is how it transforms our hearts until we begin to see ourselves, our circumstances, and even those who have hurt us through an entirely different lens.

What does a person become when they are no longer governed by fear, the need for vindication, or the opinions of others?

Joseph gives us a beautiful picture of the answer.

They become free to love.

And maybe that's one of the greatest evidences of the Father's transforming work in our lives.

From the Table…
The Beauty of the Wilderness

What if one of the greatest purposes of the wilderness is to separate who we are from what we do?

We spend a lot of time reflecting on the wilderness. After all, The Lodging Place was born out of a desire to rethink the wilderness as a beautiful place of discovery, where we become awakened to our original blueprint, the person God created us to be.

Somewhere along the way, it’s easy to begin measuring our worth by what we accomplish, what we possess, or what others think of us. Without realizing it, our identity becomes entangled with our productivity, our successes, and even our failures.

But what if the wilderness is where the Lord gently begins untangling those things? Think about Abram, who was invited by God to leave everything familiar and begin walking into the unknown. What if that journey was as much about discovering who he was in God as it was about discovering who God was? Or Saul of Tarsus, who, after encountering Jesus, spent time in the desert in Arabia. I wonder how much of that season involved unlearning and becoming untethered from the religious pedigree that had defined so much of his life.

Maybe the deepest healing of self-worth doesn’t come from discovering how valuable we are in ourselves, but from discovering how COMPLETELY we are loved by the Father, apart from anything we could ever accomplish.

And as His love becomes more deeply rooted within us, we become free to live, love, and serve without constantly needing to prove that we’re enough.

We no longer have to work to become someone. We’re finally free to live from the beautiful reality of who we already are in Him.

From the Table…
The Love That Found Us First

The very possibility of our lives being lived through Christ was initiated by God. Jesus said, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you,” and John reminds us, “Not that we loved God, but that He loved us.”

It all begins with Him.

In Jesus, God came to where we were and brought us back to His original intent: life in the love of the Father, Son, and Spirit. This is the love John says casts out fear.

Maybe freedom from fear isn’t found in trying harder not to be afraid, but in becoming more convinced that the Father loves us with the same love He has for His Son, Jesus.

We didn’t initiate this love, and we don’t have to manufacture it. We are simply learning to live through Him, allowing the Love that found us first to become visible through us.

From the Table…

The storm was already there when Peter stepped out of the boat and began walking toward Jesus. The wind was blowing and the waves were moving. But when Peter saw the wind, he became afraid and began to sink. The storm didn’t suddenly become stronger. What changed was where Peter’s attention settled (Matthew 14:22-33).

Life constantly competes for our attention. Fear, responsibilities, uncertainty, and circumstances can become so great in our awareness that we lose sight of the One who called us. Keeping our eyes on Jesus doesn’t mean pretending the storm isn’t there. It means refusing to allow the storm to become greater in our awareness than Him.

Maybe today you don’t need all the answers or even need a storm to end before you experience His peace. Maybe you simply need to hear His invitation again:

Look at Me. Don’t be distracted. Just look at Me.

From the Table…
Remember the Stones

There are moments when we stand at the edge of something new and all we can see is the river in front of us. We wonder whether God will provide, whether we’ve heard Him correctly, or whether we have what it takes for the road ahead.

When Joshua led Israel across the Jordan, God told them to take stones from the river and build a memorial. In the years ahead, when their children asked what the stones meant, they could tell the story of God’s faithfulness.

We all need stones of remembrance—reminders of the places where God has already met us and brought us through.

The wilderness wasn’t wasted, and neither was the waiting. Even the places where we stumbled can remind us that God never let go of our hand.

Psalm 37 gives us a beautiful picture of this kind of life:

“Stalwart walks in step with God; his path blazed by God, he’s happy. If he stumbles, he’s not down for long; God has a grip on his hand” (Psalm 37:23-24, The Message).

Often, the courage to cross the next river comes from remembering the rivers He has already brought us through!

Before worrying about the river in front of you, remember the stones behind you.

From the Table...

We can spend so much of our lives looking for someone else to give us what we believe we need from God. The right word, the right sermon, the right prayer, or just the right spiritual experience.

There is nothing wrong with receiving from others. We need one another. But our peace was never meant to depend on another person's ability to hear God for us.

Paul said, “He is not far from each one of us.” (Acts 17:27)

What a beautiful reminder! God is not somewhere far away, waiting for the right person or moment to bring Him near. He longs for us to recognize His presence, hear His voice, and learn to trust Him for ourselves.

Maybe what you've been searching for isn't somewhere else at all.

He is closer than you think.

From the Table...
Don’t Bury What God Put in You

Have you been wrestling with your calling lately? You know there is something God has placed within you, but you're unsure what to do with it. Maybe the opportunities haven't come, the path has changed, or you're simply afraid to take the next step.

You don't have to have everything figured out. Your calling may even look different than you once imagined.

Receive wisdom, remain humble and teachable, but don't allow the fear of what others might think keep you from responding to what God has placed within you.

Calling isn't about proving something to anyone. It's about staying close enough to Jesus to hear His voice and becoming free enough to follow wherever He leads.

Listen to the Holy Spirit and take the next faithful step.

Don’t bury what God put in you because you’re afraid of where following Him might lead.

From the Table...
The Journey Home

There is something about airports, especially during a layover. Being in that in-between place, you're no longer where you were and not yet where you're going, seems to awaken a sense of adventure.

Even the books in the terminal convenience store somehow seem more interesting. Stories of people exploring rivers, forests, and places we've never seen remind us that there is always more to discover than what first meets the eye.

Maybe that's what travel awakens in us. It reminds us that life is larger than our routines and makes us a little more attentive, curious, and open.

Yet somehow, the excitement of going somewhere eventually points us back home. And not merely to a place, but to the present moment where God is actually meeting us.

What if the deepest adventure isn't escaping our lives or reaching the next destination? Maybe it's learning to fully inhabit the one unfolding right here, right now.

And if another adventure does await us beyond the horizon, we'll only be able to receive it well if we've first learned to enjoy the one unfolding right here, right now.

“Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage.” — Psalm 84:5

From the Table...

One of the greatest lies we can believe is that we've missed our moment.

Maybe you've watched others seem to flourish while your own life has felt like one long wilderness. But what if you're not behind at all? What if those hidden seasons have been preparation rather than punishment?

The thief on the cross reminds us that it's never too late. By every human measure, his life looked wasted, yet in a single moment he turned toward Jesus and heard these words: "Today you will be with Me in Paradise."

Jesus is never in a hurry, and He is never late.

Our hope has never rested in arriving at the life we imagined. It has always been found in the One Who meets us exactly where we are.

Maybe the wilderness hasn't been a detour after all. Maybe it has been preparing your heart to discover that knowing Him is the treasure you've been looking for.
