“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
This is an actual verse in the Bible and I feel like it deeply resonates with so many of us.
It came from Jehoshaphat, a King of Judah (in 2 Chronicles: 20. Go read it!)
At one point, Jehoshaphat gets a message that there’s a huge force on its way to fight him. Men from many places have teamed up to come against him. It’s evident, Jehoshaphat and his people are at a great disadvantage. They will get slaughtered without a miracle.
Jehoshaphat prays to God and says, “For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
Maybe you understand this type of desperate stance before God. Maybe you feel completely undone and unsure how to move forward.
There are situations in life that are so far beyond our abilities to handle, all we can do is look at God.
God’s response to Jehoshaphat’s prayer wasn’t, “figure it out!” Or “try harder!!”
No, instead His response is, “do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s”… “you will not have to fight this battle”.
And God tells Jehoshaphat not to be afraid or discouraged. He tells them not to run away, instead, to go face their fear.
They do, and they are victorious.
You might not know what to do, friend.
But that’s the thing.. you might not need to.
It’s not about knowing “the plan”, it’s about knowing where to keep your eyes fixed.
And it’s about knowing who to let fight your battles.
The best place you can be is a place of surrender. And it’s enough if all you can manage to say is..
“I don’t know what to do, Jesus. But my eyes are on you.”
