Kim stopped by after voting. We talked about my November project and once again my friends come through. I made the comment that I needed to figure out a medieval field drainage problem. The new Baron is visiting one of his manors with flooded fields. The young bailiff has an idea to run by him. Problem is I didn't know how to fix that without backhoe and pvc pipes with holes and a few tons of stone carted in by the local quarry. Kim looked it up while we were talking and explained how. She's good. I like to include real details because "We looked and came up with a plan so he fixed it" doesn' t entertain me. That was fun. She also found a partner for one of my gender fluid characters that has his heart broken. (He doesn't use they/them in 1200.) The creative juices are flowing today!! Thanks Kim.!

Some one asked how to survive the tension of the next several days in the US. I'd say write your fear on a slip of paper and burn it (safely) with a candle in something resembling a cauldron set on a safe hot pad. Chant Be gone be gone be gone until the paper is gone. It's a game. It's a prayer. It's a spell. Whatever you make of it. And every time you get scared think of the paper ashes which you might have flushed or scattered to the wind. Or rinse and repeat. As often as you like.

I saw an ad for outlining an entire novel in a day. Protagonist, antagonist, supporting characters, setting, and plot. Then just fill in the blanks. NO NO NO NO. Not for a great novel. Not for a good novel. Not for me. I'm doing the November 50,000 word project. I only get a daily clue on what happens next. But I'll tell you this it is already a good book. Deep, satisfying,emotional. I love it. Everyday I can't wait to jump back in. And then I'm gone for hours.

There's a story to go with this chorus. It's from a Jason Mraz song which is a break up song but I think this is about something else.
Last night I was getting ready to go to bed, turned off the sound system music and I heard more music set very low coming from the opposite side of the room. Dandy cat was staring at the Kindle so i picked up and sure enough it was on this chorus. I checked the volume to turn it up to listen because sometimes random songs can carry meaning . its happened before. But the volume was off. I shouldn't be getting any sound at all. I fiddled with it and everything went wacky. The picture disappeared. The sound stopped. And I couldn't get it back. Search engine wouldn't search. I finally went to bed. This morning I searched without a problem. There it was.

My friend Helen who is here this morning said this is her life. Out of control and out of her hands. We laughed about it but both got a little chill down the back bone.

There! I wrote my Sunday Snippet post for Substack...it will go live later. Need to go to my desktop to fix a couple things and then publish it. I'll let you know. And I wrote the Acknowledgments section for Knights of Lancaster. I wondered how I would make it different and interesting, but it pretty much wrote itself.
So now I get a grapefruit for lunch and a nap. Later!!

I ve been getting notices from NaNoWwiMo about the November challenge. That's National Novel Writing Month in case you don't live my life vicariously. Lol. Several of my stories started their lives as a NaNoWriMo challenge. Knights of Lancaster is one of them. The idea is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. You sign in and report your progress. You get a pat on the back for "winning" that is to say get at least 50,000 words down in 30 days. Don't worry about quality. You can edit later.
Well I edited, rewrote and added twice as much material and Knights is now a really good story. I think!
So what about this November? I have 4 works in progress including last years project, but for November I don't want to rework something I'll rework any way. I can get this winter's book Priestess of Heppeshaw done and still write something new. What part of the Cup and the Ring series shall I do?
And I decided! I'll write Freddy's story. The setting and characters are familiar. I don't have to stop and research. Now Kim is the only person who knows who Freddy is. He is magic. And it would be a spoiler if I told much of anything about his story. So I won't. But I'm excited!! Can't wait for November!
Meanwhile I need to get you all into Knights of Lancaster. Here kittykittykitty....
