available online through the summer months.

Sunday worship: 10:00am in the sanctuary and live-streamed, as well
Sunday School is Sept. We are a community committed to the fostering of faith for young
participants. Children are encouraged to participate fully in worship, and
are encouraged to growth through Sunday School. Church Office Hours will resume in July on Wednesdays and Fridays
(12:00pm – 4:00pm). Access to the church will be via appointment only.

Good morning, Dear Church. Nearly every Sunday as God gathers us in worship, we sing the “kyrie” — one of the oldest songs of the church — which proclaims God’s perpetual mercy. This ethic is at the center of God’s self, and we often talk about God’s mercy flowing from Scripture and the sacraments into our own lives. We get the chance to live mercifully, too, as we endeavor to live as members one of another, in the community of the Church, as people so dearly loved by God. So, join us again today and be turned toward this merciful love that softens our hearts and transforms our minds.

— Church, Nearly every Sunday as God gathers us in worship, we sing the “kyrie” — one of the oldest songs of the church — which proclaims God’s perpetual mercy. We will be collecting water, single serve bags of chips, fruit cups, cups of apple sauce, granola bars, and fruit snacks between now and Sept 6. • New Member Sunday – Sept 13: We will welcome new members to join Messiah. If you have interest, please connect with the church office.

• Collection for NE Ohio Coalition for the Homeless Sept 13 – Oct 11: Hoodies/sweaters, tents, sleeping bags, gloves, hats, unused batteries, hygiene products, sunscreen, socks, boots, unused underwear, long underwear, blankets, backpacks, warm blankets, towels and hand washcloths, tissues and baby wipes, hand sanitizer, masks, bugspray, sunscreen, rain ponchos, hand warmers. NOTE: Donated items will be collected on the table near the back entrance of the church. The donations will be moved to a secure location following services for safekeeping. Last spring, several donations went missing before they could be delivered.

• Sunday School – Sept 20: Sunday School will start on Sept 20, 2026 at 9:00am sharp. Students will be ready for pick-up at 9:50am. NOTE: We are looking for another teacher. If you feel called to participate in the faith journey of our youth, either weekly or as an occasional substitute, please get in touch! Talk to Sarah Dellinger, Lisa Halberg, or Allison Schreiber to learn more.

• ATS Branch 33 Clambake – Sept 26: At Messiah – 3pm social hour – 4pm dinner. Reservations and payment due by Sept. 20. Full dinner (clams plus chicken) is $30 for members and $35 for non-members. Chicken only meal and children’s dinner also available. Checks payable to ATS Branch 33. For more info: call or text Maria (440-552-1364) or email [email protected].

Think we can pack more lunches than last year? We do–but we NEED YOUR HELP! September 13th we're going to be packing up lunches again for Project Hope for the Homeless - Ecumenical Shelter Network of Lake County.

The donations needed for the lunches are the following:
• Bottled water
• Single serve bags of chips
• Fruit cups
• Applesauce cups
• Granola bars
• Fruit snacks

Church, Peter’s confession story continues today as we hear Jesus shift from calling Peter “the rock” to “a stumbling block” when he misunderstands what Jesus is truly up against. Yet the powers of this world that tear life apart will not have the last word. Though Jesus’ ministry leads to the cross, resurrection life emerges beyond it, and new beginnings are forged through the toughest of times. Come and know God’s presence with us again as we are gathered around Word and Sacrament on this final August Sunday. Yet the powers of this world that tear life apart will not have the last word. Though Jesus’ ministry leads to the cross, resurrection life emerges beyond it, and new beginnings are forged through the toughest of times. Come and know God’s presence with us again as we are gathered around Word and Sacrament on this final August Sunday.

✝️ Blessing of the Backpacks – Aug 30: This Sunday students of all ages are encouraged to bring their backpack or book bag as we mark the beginning of the school year during Children’s Moment in worship.

✝️ Birthday Sunday Fellowship Hour – Aug 30: Join us for Fellowship Hour after the service for our renewal of Birthday Sunday to honor everyone who celebrates an August birthday. All are invited for refreshments and fellowship.

✝️ Ministry Team Spotlight – Connections Team – Aug 30: Our team works together to build community and foster faith formation for all here at Messiah. Through events such as Reformation Day potluck and speaker, movie nights, game nights, Advent and Lent observances, the Home Day of Service, and summer picnic we hope to facilitate gatherings that encourage connections with our faith and each other. Pub Theology continues this evening, Monday, August 24th 2026 at Mulligan’s Pub in Highland Heights. Come pull up a chair! We’ll begin around 6 and plan to wrap up no later than 8.

Our topic this time is inspired by a recent song I stumbled upon on social media: “Important” by Ian McConnell, a sort of comedic-pop vibe with a cheery take on nihilism that may make for an interesting conversation. Though we in the Lutheran wing of the Church don’t usually tend towards a “nothing matters” life philosophy (which is perhaps also a misunderstanding of nihilism), I do think there is some wisdom in trying to make sense out of our very small place in the cosmic scheme of the universe so that we might work as a community to compassionately understand our human condition and care for one another.

Beloved Church, Though Saint Peter’s mythological appearances frequently feature him as a cartoon doorman at the “Pearly Gates,” there’s so much more to his story. Matthew’s Gospel features Peter as a prominent disciple, perhaps symbolic of the entire flock of faith in some ways: doubting yet strong, stubborn yet curious, bumbling yet articulate when the moment requires it. Today, we hear Peter confess Jesus to be “the Messiah:” the chosen one, the redeemer of God’s people, who will usher in a new age of societal justice and love. That’s a pretty radical confession, especially while they are in a city of Roman deities and other mythological figures some might look to for “deliverance!” The kingdom of heaven that Jesus brings into our present moment promises to make all things right, and Peter’s got the key: not as an escape from the hardships but as a door *through* them. Come and be gathered again into God’s reign and know Christ’s presence with us in broken bread and wine outpoured.
