Memorial of St. Teresa of Calcutta

Today the Church may celebrate the Optional Memorial of St. Teresa of Calcutta. She believed that Christ was waiting to be loved in people who were poor, sick, abandoned, and dying—and she answered that call through concrete service, one person at a time.
Her witness does not ask us to romanticize poverty or remain indifferent to injustice. It asks us to defend human dignity and to refuse the temptation to treat any person as invisible.

St. Teresa of Calcutta, pray that we may recognize Christ in those who are overlooked and respond with humility, tenderness, and practical love.

Choose one small act of mercy today: make a call, share a meal, visit someone who is lonely, or give generously to a ministry serving people in need.

Memorial of St. Gregory the Great

St. Gregory the Great did not separate prayer from responsibility. A monk drawn to contemplation, he was called to serve the Church as pope during years marked by disease, hunger, political instability, and pastoral need.
Gregory organized care for the poor, strengthened the Church's mission, taught the faith, and reminded pastors that authority is a form of service. The title associated with his ministry—“servant of the servants of God”—still challenges every Christian leader.

St. Gregory, pray for our pope, bishops, priests, teachers, public servants, and all who carry responsibility for others. May they lead with humility, courage, and care for those most easily forgotten.

Pray today for one person whose decisions affect many lives.

Feast of St. Augustine

“Our heart is restless until it rests in you.” — St. Augustine, Confessions
Augustine’s path to Christ was neither quick nor tidy. He searched for truth, took wrong turns, and discovered that success and pleasure could not satisfy the deepest hunger of his heart. Through grace, the prayers of Monica, and the witness of faithful Christians, he encountered the God who had never stopped seeking him.
He would become a bishop, pastor, theologian, and Doctor of the Church—but first he was a restless sinner who allowed himself to be found.

St. Augustine, pray for everyone searching for truth and for all who believe they have wandered too far to return.

Where are you asking something created to satisfy a longing that only God can fill?

Feast of St. Monica

St. Monica knew the ache of loving someone whose path had led him away from the faith. She prayed for her son Augustine through years of uncertainty—not trying to control God’s timing, but refusing to surrender hope.

Her perseverance was active and courageous. She remained faithful, sought wise counsel, accompanied her son, and entrusted what she could not change to God’s grace.

St. Monica, pray for parents, grandparents, spouses, and friends who carry someone they love in persistent prayer.

Today, quietly place one person’s name before God. Pray with hope, then entrust that person to the Lord’s care.

Feast of St. Bartholomew

Today the Church celebrates St. Bartholomew, one of the Twelve Apostles. Scripture gives us few details about him, but Christian tradition has commonly identified him with Nathanael—the man whose honest skepticism gave way to a bold confession of faith.

Philip did not win Nathanael with an argument. He simply said, “Come and see.” That same invitation remains at the heart of evangelization: encounter Jesus, spend time with him, and allow him to reveal that he already knows you.

St. Bartholomew, pray that we may bring our honest questions to Christ and become courageous witnesses to what we discover.

Invite someone to pray with you, read today’s Gospel, or join you at Sunday Mass.
