Memorial of St. Gregory the Great
St. Gregory the Great did not separate prayer from responsibility. A monk drawn to contemplation, he was called to serve the Church as pope during years marked by disease, hunger, political instability, and pastoral need.
Gregory organized care for the poor, strengthened the Church's mission, taught the faith, and reminded pastors that authority is a form of service. The title associated with his ministry—“servant of the servants of God”—still challenges every Christian leader.
St. Gregory, pray for our pope, bishops, priests, teachers, public servants, and all who carry responsibility for others. May they lead with humility, courage, and care for those most easily forgotten.
Pray today for one person whose decisions affect many lives.
