Vision Virginia 2026 Week of Prayer
Building a Church Planting Pipeline

Sometimes God’s plan for reaching people begins in the most unexpected ways.

When Pastor William Samadder fled religious persecution in Bangladesh and arrived in Northern Virginia, he came seeking safety for his family after years of ministry among an unreached people group. What he could not have known was that God was already preparing a new mission field for him – right where he landed.

Through a connection at Pillar Church in Dumfries, William met Pastor Colby Garman, who quickly recognized both William’s heart for the Gospel and the growing Bengali population throughout Northern Virginia. Together, they began exploring how God might use William to reach Bengali-speaking families who had little connection to a local church.

With support from SBC of Virginia church-planting resources and Vision Virginia funding, William entered church-planter training and began gathering people for Bible study, fellowship, and worship. What started as a small gathering in a home is now a developing church plant with a core group of nearly 40 people and regular outreach throughout the Bengali community.

“There is no Bengali-speaking church in Virginia,” William shared. “I believe it was God’s plan for me to be here.” Today, many are studying Scripture, worshiping together, and hearing the Gospel in their heart language.

For Pastor Colby, the impact of partnership is clear. “Thank you for giving through Vision Virginia and making it possible for churches and planters like William to answer God’s call and reach people we wouldn’t be able to reach unless we partner together.”

Through the Vision Virginia State Missions Offering, SBCV churches are helping build a church-planting pipeline that reaches new communities, develops leaders, and expands the Gospel across Virginia.

Though there was nothingness in every direction out of Bar Nunn, Wyoming, Tyler and Ashley Martin moved there as church planting missionaries because they saw something in all that nothing.

“In Wyoming, there are 203 places, mostly small towns, you can have as a mailing address,” Tyler said. “More than 60 of those don’t have a church of any kind. And God told us, ‘Those people need the Gospel too.’”

That “something” became Outfitter Church. Now, Tyler is training men in the congregation to reach those small, out-of-the-way places. Because Wyoming is so spread out and resources are limited, church planters must come from within the church. This need inspired the creation of circuit preaching teams to plant churches across the state.

“Towns that have never had a church ever in their history,” Tyler said. “Now we’re going to get the Gospel to them.”

Through the Cooperative Program, churches help missionaries like Tyler and Ashley Martin start churches in small, hard-to-reach places. Pray this week that other churches in Wyoming will recognize and respond to the Gospel needs around them.

Missionaries Nawid and Freshta Aziz need our prayers as they serve refugees in western Europe through the International Mission Board.

Anahita and her family fled their homeland in Central Asia, enduring a four-year journey marked by hardship—including the loss of a child. Struggling with grief and depression, Anahita found comfort through a women’s ministry led by Freshta.

Anahita began attending church and learning about Jesus. Her husband joined her and recently committed his life to Christ. Pray that Anahita will follow.

Nawid and Freshta minister to both non-believing and Christian refugees, offering discipleship and teaching foundational theology. Language barriers make it difficult for refugees to attend local churches, but the Aziz family speak their native Central Asian language and are welcomed as family.

This summer, they are hosting camps to share the Gospel and offer hope to those who have experienced trauma and loss. As Nawid and Freshta serve with compassion, pray for wisdom and protection. Pray for Anahita’s husband to grow in faith, for Anahita to receive Christ, and for many refugees to find healing and new life through the Gospel. When you give to the general offering, a portion of every gift goes to this and other mission efforts around the world.
