When the book of Esther is read, traditionally, people are to boo, hiss, stomp feet or use noisemakers when the name, "Haman" is read. Should be interesting. There is a blessing before and after the reading.
Then there is a celebatory meal...we are having pickled veggies, hummus and pita chips, nuts and dried fruits, challah bread, and stuffed mushrooms. I know, it is a bit unusual, but fun to try things out. Almost forgot the almond flavored cookies!
To truly celebrate, one is also to give food to friends and share with the needy. This is also part of the Purim celebration...
