We have been serving the Huddleston community for over 50 years! We are conveniently and centrally located to the communities of Altavista, Bedford, Evington, Huddleston, Lynch Station, Moneta, and Smith Mountain Lake. We have families from all over the area. While we are located in a rural area, we have been given the great priviledge of dedicating ourselves to making the Gospel of Jesus Christ k

nown in the surrounding small communities and cross generationally. We welcome all ages, cultures, languages, and diversities of life. Our primary purpose is making Jesus Christ known to all and we believe the primary means of this being accomplished will be through prayer. Service Times:

Please sign your kids up so that we know how many are coming so that we can prepare food and snacks! Terry Wayne Johnson, 78 of Moneta, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026 at his residence. He was born August 24, 1947 in Bedford County, a son of the late Oma B. Johnson and Bertha Dellis Johnson. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy Dillon, Sylvia Cox, Nadine Hodges and brothers, O.B., Wilson & Bobby Johnson.

Terry was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Vietnam War having served in Cam Ranh Bay & Vung Ro Bay operating an amphibious cargo vehicle.

He was a member of the Moneta Church of God of Prophecy and was a self-employed plumber for thirty-seven years taking pride in giving everyone an excellent job until his health declined.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Harris Johnson; son, Jason Wayne Johnson; sister, Vernelle Tuck; brother, Travis Johnson; sisters-in-law, Diane Johnson; brother-in-law, M. J. Cox, Jr.; special nieces, Kiwonna Bush, Carol Slusher; special nephews, Douglas Ellis, Craig Cassell; numerous other nieces & nephews.

Special thanks to to the team at Nayar Hospice especially nurses Olivia, Jaeydin and Sky for their care over the last three weeks.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made Nayar Hospice, 104 Center Street, Bedford, VA 24523 or Dementia Research.

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 AM on Monday, June 8, 2026 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and a funeral service will follow at 1 PM in the chapel with Rev. Wayne Murphy, Rev. Melvin Harris and Rev. Michael Turner officiating. Interment, with military honors by Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard, will follow in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.

Phillip Edward Newman, 78, of Lynch Station, passed away Friday, June 5,2026 at Cardinal Senior Living at Bedford. He was born Tuesday, May 11, 1948, in Bedford, a son of the late James Lewis Newman and Viola James Creasy Newman. He was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.
Phillip was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Vietnam War. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry then later worked as a site attendant for Bedford County Landfill. Phillip was a member of Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving is his wife, Delores Goff Newman; daughter, Cynthia Nichols (Haden) & Julie Dean; grandchildren, Morgan Faye McPeters (Benjamin), Colton Brian Claiborne, Olivia Elizabeth Dean, Kevin James Nichols (Virginia) & Kimberley Lynn Nichols; great-grandchildren, Michael Nichols, Luke Nichols & Jeremiah Nichols; sisters, Barbara Hayes & Linda Whitmore.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 3831 Old Forest Road, Suite 7, Lynchburg, VA 24504.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 noon until service time at the church.

I want to give a huge thank you to Brother Raymond for putting together and orchestrating everything for our first youth boys camp out, right down to the cooking and may I say that it was fantastic. He even did a silent walk with the kids and asked them if they knew who Jesus was? Take a look at these pictures to see what went on!
