As we mark the 249th anniversary of the founding of our great nation, we pause to give thanks to Almighty God, who governs in the affairs of men, and we remember the solemn courage of those who signed our Constitution.
These patriots, by placing their names on that document, knowingly risked their lives, their fortunes, and their perrsonal honor. In so doing, they declared themselves in defiance of tyranny and the ways of the world, choosing instead a higher path—one that would secure liberty and justice under the guiding hand of our blessed Lord.
May we, too, in our generation, stand firm in truth, uphold righteousness, do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God as stewards grace of God He has entrusted to us.
And now, we must ask ourselves:
Are we willing to affix our names to this—just as the framers of our Constitution did to theirs?
✦ Our Spiritual Preamble ✦
We the people of God,
redeemed by the blood of the Lamb¹,
in order to be made holy²,
to walk in unity of the Spirit³,
to establish righteousness⁴,
to promote the peace that passeth understanding⁵,
to resist the dominion of sin, Satan, and self⁶,
and to advance the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ⁷
Do humbly and solemnly commit ourselves
to the covenant of God's Word⁸,
submit wholly to His Will⁹,
and walk faithfully in His Work¹⁰,
according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit¹¹
and the truth revealed in the Holy Scriptures¹².
To the glory of God the Father, through Jesus Christ the Son, and by the power of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
✦ Scripture Footnotes ✦
¹ Revelation 1:4-6 " 4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace [be] unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; 5 And from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, [and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."
² 1 Peter 1:13-16 "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."
³ Ephesians 4:1-3 "I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
⁴ Amos 5:24 "But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream."
⁵ Philippians 4:5-7 "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord [is] at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
⁶ Romans 6:11-13 "Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 13 Neither yield ye your members [as] instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members [as] instruments of righteousness unto God." Ephesians 6:10-11 "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."
⁷ Matthew 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
⁸ Psalms 119:105 "NUN. Thy word [is] a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
⁹ Matthew 6:10 "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven."
10 Ecclesiastes 9:10 "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do [it] with thy might; for [there is] no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." 1 Corinthians 10:31 "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."
¹¹ Romans 8:13-14 "For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."
¹² 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."
