DOES THIS CONCERN YOU? (DEATH?)

Many of us have feared death.

We seem to know that one day, death comes calling on all of us.

And yet, we try to avoid it . . . delay it . . . cheat it.

How can we overcome this fear of illness, aging, and death, and be SET FREE to truly LIVE and enjoy the days we are given?

How can we come to the place where we can LAUGH AT DEATH and no longer be concerned over it?

That is the topic of our MESSAGE at Lurgan Church this last Sunday of May, May 31st. The service begins at 10 AM sharp.

Please feel free to come for a comforting and entertaining message as we consider some wisdom from the Psalms - and from the Lrrd Jesus.

Blessings to all . . . live with JOY!

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD.

G'day! This Sunday, May 3rd, at Lurgan Church, we will explore the 23RD PSALM, you know the one, starts out with 'The Lord is my shepherd.'

This is such a well-known psalm, penned by a man named David. But when? Was it when he was a boy, a shepherd, a musician, a warrior, a King, an elderly person looking back . . . we will explore the 'when.'

Though Psalm 23 is well known, it is not always 'well understood.'

What does it mean 'I shall not want'? We want many things!

What does it mean 'He makes me lie down in green pastures'? Our human instinct is often 'YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!'

It will be an interesting, insightful lesson, followed by the receiving of Communion.

You are invited to join us, 10:00 AM, at Lurgan Church, this Sunday, May 3, 7900 Roxbury Road, 7 miles west of Shippensburg.

WHY BOTHER WITH COMMUNION?

This Sunday, May 3rd Lurgan Church, we will share the Last Supper, also called 'Holy Communion' together. You are, of course, invited to join us for this special time!

We do this on the first Sunday of the month, six times per year, every other month. Some feel this is too often. Some feel it is not often enough.

Why bother at all?

Here's some reasons why it is important:

1) Communion is communing, it is community, it is the togetherness of Jesus people. Remembering Jesus and what He has done for us is the one thing Christians have in common. It is a special time of remembering - and being loved - together.

2) Receiving communion is a vital reminder of how deeply Jesus loves us, and it builds our love and faithfulness towards Him. It strengthens us in our faith - and commitment - to Christ.

3) Communion reminds us that we are forgiven. And that we are deeply loved by the Lord - even if we are not forgiven and not loved much by anyone else.

4) Jesus, and the Word of God, the Bible - encourage us to enjoy this sacred meal together regularly, to stay connected to the One who has given His life for us.

To sum it up, Communion is a special and meaningful time. The biblical invitation applies to you: 'Come, taste and see . . . that the Lord is GOOD!'

Pat Boone… remember him? He recommends praying for leaders. What a concept! (From the Bible!)

THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 26 Lurgan Church:

MISSIONS FOCUS: Pignon Christian Academy

Sunday morning, during our 10 AM worship/teaching time at Lurgan Church, we are having a very special 'MISSIONS FOCUS.'

We will be blessed to be hosting the Bernard Family, Rony, Lauren, Laurelya, and Laurel.

This young family will be sharing with us from their heart of compassion about their ministry in rural Haiti, providing life-supporting meals and a Christian education to well over one hundred students - and growing.

Speaking of the meal, my understanding is that the meal these darling children receive at school - for many - is the only meal they get for an entire day. And it includes meat, rice, and vegetables.

Our theme for the day is 'God's Compassion.' We know Jesus was deeply compassionate, he saw many people as 'sheep without a shepherd.' We are called as Jesus people - to share his compassion for the last, least, and lost among us.

Please come. You will be blessed - and challenged! Guests always wanted and very welcome!
