Many weather models predict that freezing will not begin until tonight. Therefore, it may be prudent to attend the 5:30pm Mass this afternoon. However, even if you are ministering at Mass, please feel free to stay at home, and I would ask you to do so if you live out of town, especially Sunday Morning, if you assess the risk is too great. It is always permissible to stay home on Sunday for a grave reason, such as debilitating illness, serious risk of contagion, the requirement to care for those with such conditions, or duties that are necessary for safety. This should never be taken as a permission to go other places like work, school, sports, shopping, or the restaurant. If you are able to do these activities, then you should attend Mass. Choosing to stay home does not dispense you from Sunday worship. There is no dispensation from treating Sunday as Holy. You should, in some way, respect this day by avoiding labor that is strictly for financial profit, spending time with family, and dedicating time to prayer such as the family rosary, praying with the readings for the Sunday, prayerfully following Mass through multimedia, or some combination of these types of activities. - In Christ: Fr.
