Ephesians 6:10-11 (New King James Version)

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (New King James Version)

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:1-6, NKJV).

“Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:15-16, NKJV).

If you walk into a dark room, what is the first thing you typically do? I start hunting for the light switch so I can turn it on and light up the room. To most of us this is immediately obvious. Thanks to Mr. Edison we have the gift of electric light, and the darkness in our homes, cars, offices, and streets is no longer a problem. Unless there is someone sleeping in the room you do not want to awaken, the idea of not using the light switch is silly. The ability to see obstacles can prevent a fall or at least a few stubbed toes.

I was talking with an associate. We were discussing the things we felt were important to succeed in life. My friend's assertion was that knowledge was one of the main keys. I agreed with him adding the proviso that required the ability or willingness to use that knowledge. He agreed, and I think the point is fairly clear. If you are reading this message, I must assume that you, or someone close to you, has the ability to read and probably to write as well. These are common tools in our civilization. In America, we are sent to school to learn these things at an early age, if we were not already taught by our parents before we started school.

What if, for whatever reason, you decided not to exercise these tools or reading and writing? I am sure the idea is ridiculous to you. However, consider having the ability to do something as fundamental as reading, and for fear of making a mistake, a person would refuse to read. Of course, we make mistakes when we are learning, but that does not stop us. We keep trying and soon the task of decrypting the words and characters from a page happens almost without thought.

So, why do we treat our Christianity differently?

Many of us do. We allow the frustrations, or the weeds of everyday life to cover over the life that lives within us. Now, this is not to say that there are not days that will get us down, or simple exhaustion wear us down, or sad news will not grieve us. But the day-to-day grind should not take us and turn us into powder. We know the joy of God's salvation and His Son, who came willingly to save us from being eternally lost. We hold a treasure in our hearts that the world around us is starving to know. Instead of showing that power and light, we allow the little trials to wear at us and to become a bushel basket that covers our light.

You have the potential to be a light in a very dark room, in a dark world for that matter. Be willing to tap into the power that is offered to us. You might be surprised at how many people will ask what is different about you or be impressed with your presence or character. These are keys that open doors to share the source of the light they see, that is your faith. If they scoff, you can remind them that they asked what was different, so there must be something to it all. The message will not always be received. But the receiving part is not your job. You are supposed to shine as a light. You have done your part. Pray that the Holy Spirit would open their hearts and minds to receive; and keep on being a light. – Mark Hoskins

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:19-21, NKJV).

"No Appeal"
When I was involved in a jail ministry I noticed that some of
the inmates would study the law books intently. They were looking for grounds upon which to appeal their conviction. There was always a chance that they might find something helpful. As I read of the final judgment in the Bible, I see no such opportunity for an appeal. The judgment is FINAL.
James has made it very clear to us about the standard of final
judgment. We will be held accountable to the Word of God (law of
liberty). There will be no consideration given to our earthly wealth, fame or power. Jesus made the word standard clear in John 12:47-48 (NKJV): “And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.”
Why not appeal to Him now before it is too late to do so? A
group of people once asked the question, “What shall we do?” The
answer was clear. You will find it in Acts 2:38. Your decision about
those words will have an impact upon your final judgment.

Following the book of Jeremiah, Lamentations gives an eyewitness account of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians written in poetic form. Although the author is not revealed in the book, the writing is ascribed to the prophet Jeremiah.

We remember that the reason for the fall of Judah and the destruction of Jerusalem was God’s judgement upon His rebellious children. And amid the destruction and capture, the author writes, “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not” (Lamentations 3:22). The author recognizes that despite their current situation, that the Lord has shown His people great mercy. Through God’s compassion, His people are carried away into captivity rather than face complete destruction by their enemy. The Lord also gives them hope for restoration: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:11-13).

We think about our lives today and realize that it is through God’s mercies that we are not consumed. We live in a fallen world, with so many opportunities to be consumed by sin and face complete destruction. But out of compassion God made provision for our restoration, for He “…demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” (Romans 5:8-10).

Despite mankind’s rebellion, God, whose compassions fail not, sent His Son to die in our stead so that we might not be consumed by death, but have everlasting life. Will you seek the Lord’s mercies today?
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
