Camp Longridge Day 4

Day 4 our last; our last evening at Camp Longridge. Pastor Paul read from Philippians 4:4-9, Galatians 5:19-23 and Matthew chapter 22:38. Both Pastor Paul and Pastor David touched on comparison this week. It is so easy for us to compare ourselves to someone that we know or even a stranger on the street. But all that comparing takes our focus off of Jesus. It is so easy to see someone being blessed and wish we could receive the same blessing. What we need to remember our own blessings! Your blessings may not look like anyone else's, but neither will your storms! When it becomes difficult to stay focused, write it down. Write your prayers, write your praises. Do what you need to do to keep your focus on Jesus! What is the focus of your life? We go through seasons when our focus changes. But it is an intentional act to keep our focus on Jesus. When we do and pursue the fruits of the Spirit, God's Spirit will shine through us! Not all things about the Bible are difficult to understand. Why do we ignore God? Why do we put Him in a little box and think that we can let Him out whenever we need him? The simple answer is because we are sinful beings. God gave us freedom of choice and He wants us to choose him. But you have to ask yourself, are you willing to love God more than yourself? It is not a difficult choice to make. It just takes intention! Are you willing to put God before self?

Camp Longridge Day 3

Day 3: Pastor Paul read from Mark 4:35-41. Jesus was asleep when the storm came. It was such a bad storm that the fishermen got scared. Jesus' disciples had already seen Him walk on water and even called Peter out to do the same. They had Jesus in the boat and were still scared of the storm. They forgot who was in the boat with them. That night was a night of dangers, doubts and discoveries. The suddenness of the storm was dangerous. You don't always see problems coming. So how can we prepare for storms in our lives? Often times when things happen that aren't in OUR plans, we lose focus from the one that calms the storms. That night was a night of doubts. They had Jesus right in front of them in the boat and it was still easy for them to lose sight of Jesus and focus on their fears. Because of the storm they doubted Jesus' is concerned for them. But also because of the storm, we can all be reminded that he is in control, beside us in the boat. That night was the night of discoveries. Jesus' disciples learned and were reminded of the power of the Lord, the promises of the Lord and the presence of the lord. The storm never posed a problem for Jesus. God has told us that He will take care of us. We just have to ask! The presence of the Lord is always with us. Even when we forget or try to hide! Wouldn't it be great if we could just trust God with everything we have? Matthew 17:20 says "I tell you the truth, if you had Faith so small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'move from here to there,' and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. " How do we do better? We acknowledge that we are not trusting him and then we remember that God is on the throne. Remember the root of every sin is selfishness. The only one stopping you from trusting and following Jesus, is YOU!

Camp Longridge Day 2

Day 2: Today was paint ball day! The kids who played had a blast.

The sermon tonight referred to Matthew 14:22.. After feeding the 5000, Jesus told his disciples to get back in their boats and go to the other side of the lake. Jesus went by himself to pray. During this time the disciples were heading into a storm. About 3:00 a.m. the disciples saw Jesus and were afraid because they thought he was a ghost. But Jesus told them "don't be afraid. Take courage I am here." Peter, testing Jesus said Lord if it's really you tell me to come to you walking on the water. Jesus said "yes come." Peter did just that and while he kept his eyes on Jesus he was on top of the water. But when he took his eyes off of Jesus and focused on the storm around him, he began to sink. That is so much like life. As long as we keep our eyes on Jesus we won't sink and we can make it through any storm. A wise man reminded me tonight that Jesus sent those men into the Storm. He is God and He knew there was going to be a storm. God knows there are going to be storms in our lives and sometimes He will send us into the storms to do his work. Just remember if we are being obedient to God we are in the perfect will of God. God doesn't always change our circumstances he may just change you. So what has power over us? Peter let the storm win until he refocused on Jesus. Every day we have a decision to make of where our attention is going to go. What is causing you to take your eyes off of Jesus? Here is something to keep in mind as you are walking through the storms of life... just know the sunshine is right behind those clouds. Because of the storm you'll be able to appreciate the sun's rays so much more!

Camp Longridge Day 1

Day 1: The theme this year is "Out of the boat." You can go into the water and have the boat right next to you, but if you were going to go any length of a distance, it would be so much easier, convenient and dryer to be in the boat. This reminds me of Jesus. You can do life your way and keep Jesus juuuuust out of your life and fight the current or you could get into the boat with Jesus and go through life a little easier. There will always be storms but with the one who calms the storms on your side, no storm can take down your boat!
In the message Pastor Paul shared, he spoke about when you have a boat why would you stay on the dock? You stay on the dock because you feel it's safe, you don't have to decide which way to go or how to avoid obstacles. You feel a sense of control in staying with the known instead of going into the unknown. This could be said the same in life. We stay in a place, with a person or a situation; good or bad because it is familiar. What if God was calling you to do the unfamiliar, but you were so stuck with sticking with what you know, that you miss a blessing?
Ephesians 2:10 says for we are God's masterpiece He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. "Look at the birds they don't plant or harvest or store food in barns for your heavenly father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are?" -Matthew6:26
To know what He has planned for you you have to first be in a relationship with God. We need to realize our need for a savior. *Romans 3:23 We need to realize what Christ has done for us. Don't hold yourself back from responding to God's love! *Romans 10:9&10
