St. John's Congregational Church Covington You don’t have to worry about finding a seat or being swallowed up by a crowd at our small independent Congregational church in Covington, KY. By 1923, St.

Very friendly; where everyone knows your name and are happy you graced us with your presence In 1892, members of the St. Paul German Evangelical Church on Banklick Street in Covington met to organize the St. John German Evangelical Protestant Church. First services in a new church building were held Dec. 26 of that year. During World War I, services at St. John began to be conducted in English as

part of a general movement away from German language services throughout the country. John's became affiliated with the Congregational Christian Church. Almost 40 years later, a church renovation added a new classroom annex and colored glass windows. The church also changed its name to reflect a merger of the Congregation Church and the Evangelical Reformed Church, forming St. John Congregational Church. Since then, St. John has remained an independent, non-denominational congregation

German heritage: Despite the move away from services in German, the congregation honored its German heritage. During the 1950s, the congregation sponsored families of refugees from East Germany, providing a home and transportation until the refugees could move on to farms in Wisconsin

When it comes to planting, I look to Christine's guidance:

For the Garden of your daily living:
PLANT THREE ROWS OF PEAS:
1. Peace of mind
2. Peace of heart
3. Peace of soul.
PLANT FOUR ROWS OF SQUASH:
1. Squash gossip
2. Squash indifference
3 Squash grumbling
4. Squash selfishness
PLANT FOUR ROWS OF LETTUCE:
1. Lettuce be faithful
2. Lettuce be kind
3. Lettuce be patient
4. Lettuce really love one another
NO GARDEN IS WITHOUT TURNIPS
1. Turnip for meetings
2. Turnip for service
3. Turnip to help one another
TO CONCLUDE OUR GARDEN WE MUST
HAVE THYME:
1. Thyme for each other
2. Thyme for family
3. Thyme for friends.
Water freely with patience and cultivate
with love. There is much fruit in your
garden because you reap what you sow.

Bobby Schuller shares: "To be an ambassador for Jesus is essentially to carry His Name. But what exactly does that mean? Interestingly, when we refer to God, we are denoting His office or the authority that He holds (in this case, over all of Creation). However, when we refer to Yahweh, we are calling Him by His proper name. You see, not only does the Lord have the deity and divinity that make Him God, but He has a distinct character and personality, and these are revealed in His Name.

But what does all of this have to do with faith, you ask? He has given us His Name. By making us members of His household, He has endowed us with authority, and He has granted to us the honor of knowing and carrying His character and nature. In short, He has filled us with His Holy Spirit so we can be living, breathing examples of His righteousness, justice, goodness, and most importantly, His love.

My friend, you bear the Name of Almighty God! While it’s important to revere His office and remain humble under His Hand, you can boldly embrace the blessing bestowed upon you when you were adopted into His family. Wherever you go, no matter how treacherous it gets, you walk as one protected, empowered, and equipped to take a stand for His Kingdom. He is an awesome Savior, and He wondrously chose you to reveal His image to a world that is increasingly pervaded by behavior that stands in opposition to His character. Knowing the divine nature of your commission, you can stand strong and trust His mighty Hand to lead, guide, protect, and sustain your mission as you courageously carry His likeness to everyone around you!."

Highlights from the message this morning at St. John's Congregational Church: Many of us are busy. Really busy! Running from one thing to the next, checking our phones, managing schedules, keeping up appearances, and some where in the middle of all that, we're quietly exhausted!
Some of us, if not all, recall the time when we knew for sure about our relationship with Jesus. Unfortunately it is not just a one time event! We need to begin each day with a proclamation that "This is the Day our Lord has made & we will rejoice in it!" It is a daily event and Jesus wants to be part of it. And He is! Even when we are too busy to acknowledge Him!
Finally, Jesus gives us the peace that we long for, it's a piece that holds even when things fall apart. It's a sense of purpose that doesn't evaporate when our plans don't work out. It's a belonging that doesn't depend on whether people approve of you or not. It's knowing, really knowing, that you are loved, you are known, and you are never alone. Thank you Jesus!

JUST BE THERE!!

We must think of every human being as 'the walking wounded', but we are not to think of how we must fix them.

Our fixing is already underway when we greet a stranger, or show up in a hospital room. But we leave the fixing to God. It is enough to stand there in love. We do not have to do much more than that.

God surrounds us with His Presence. God is healing us every moment. And that is where we must be. Present! With people! We greet them. We touch them. We smile at them, listen to them, walk with them. We weep with those who weep. But there is STILL a little more we can do, while we leave the fixing to God.

In a Peanuts cartoon Charlie Brown asks Lucy: "Do pretty girls know they are pretty?"

Says Lucy:"Only if somebody tells them,"

It's a metaphor about life in general.

A compliment to a pretty girl makes HER even prettier. Kind words are like vitamins. They nourish the spirit. A nourished spirit makes the body healthier and inspires persons to their own good deeds. Care and kindness is a brilliant way to create an ever-expanding chain of goodwill spreading like a prairie fire across the world, creating a wonderful form of global warming.

What does the Lord require of you? "To act justly. To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God," says Micah 6:8. Here is another biblical teaching slightly embellished: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is to look after orphans and widows (and strangers, geeks, teenagers, sick people, the walking wounded, the grieving and everybody else struggling, hurting and handicapped).”

We can encourage them, appreciate them, inspire them with loving words, smiles, and compliments and general friendliness.

But leave the fixing to God.

THURSDAY • APRIL 23

Matthew 13:31-33
He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and mixed into fifty pounds of flour until all of it was leavened” (v. 33).

Small actions result in major changes.

In 1903, the Wright brothers’ 12-second, 120-foot flight in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, seemed trivial. Yet this small step revolutionized transportation, paving the way for global air travel and space exploration. In 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger –– a single act of defiance that ignited the Montgomery Bus Boycott and became a cornerstone of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started Apple in a California garage in 1976, assembling computers by hand. Today, Apple is a trillion-dollar company that transformed technology, communication, and music. You never know what big things will come from small starts.

Jesus reminded us of this when He compared His kingdom to a pinch of yeast that leavens the whole lump of bread dough. Your personal growth begins the moment you say “yes” to what God wants to do in your life. As small as that initial decision may seem and as insignificant as it may appear, it has great potential. That one “yes” to God grows and expands until your entire life is impacted by it. It’s the same with your public influence. Volunteering in the nursery or dragging your reluctant teenagers to church every week is worth it, even if you can’t see it now. The parable of the pinch of leaven encourages us in seasons when God’s work feels slow or unseen. It can happen to us all: We fear our addiction recovery isn’t going fast enough or we wonder if the part we play in children’s ministry makes any difference at all. So sometimes we want to give up. But when it comes to Kingdom work, small and humble beginnings have massive consequences. Keep it up!

Jesus, thank You for reminding me how big things can come from my small and unseen faithfulness to You.

CONSIDER THIS
▪ Read: Matthew 13:31-33.
▪ How might this parable encourage you in seasons where God’s work feels slow or unseen?

▪ How do your efforts in God’s Kingdom relate to His sovereign control?

Bobby Schuller shares about his grandpa, Robert H. Schuller, best known for The Hour of Power. "Being an ambassador for Christ looks different for everyone. As my Grandpa Schuller once said, “In the Kingdom of God, there are some who plant the seed, some who water it, some who trim the branches, and some who take the harvest.” Then he added, “And there are some who go to hard, dry ground and till the soil to prepare it for the planter.” He looked at me and said, “Bobby, that’s what I do.”

My Grandpa knew his role in God’s Kingdom and was confident in it. He understood that no one person can do it all. Just as a diplomat relies on a team of specialists, we are wise to know our Kingdom strengths and lean on the Body of Christ to sharpen and complement us. Whether we are called to evangelize, disciple, encourage, or serve, each of us is uniquely equipped to bring the virtues of Heaven to earth.

My friend, you have an important role in God’s Kingdom. Your Savior has appointed you to represent Him in a way only you can. You carry gifts the world needs, and your call as His ambassador is the highest honor you will ever receive. Don’t try to be everything to everyone — simply focus on what He has called you to do, commit your talents to Him, and step forward in faith. He will use you to touch lives in ways you may not see until you stand face-to-face with Jesus. Until then, don’t underestimate your ability to make a difference — the Lord is greater than your greatest fear!
