Here’s a neat bit of our history. An article from the June 22, 1910 edition of the Ludington Chronicle announces the approval of our request to change our council number from 1409 to 1492 — and explains why the change was granted.

To commemorate the 350th anniversary of the death of Fr. Jacques Marquette, the Knights of Columbus Pere Marquette Council 1492 visited the site of his death. A few Knights chose to arrive by kayak, despite the chill and the unfavorable winds.

Fix your eyes on Jesus!

“The mystery of the Eucharist, believed in and celebrated, demands a constant catechesis on the need for all to engage in a missionary effort centered on the proclamation of Jesus as the one Savior.” -Pope Benedict XVI

“Who then is God? He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God. Do not look for any further answers concerning God.”
-St. Columban

There is so much wisdom in this, I’m overwhelmed.
Much of our theological writings strike me as pure hubris and sometimes even useless exercises.
We come up with neat, logical prepackaged answers that only serve to cage us and limit Our God.
This is how we get to the cognitive disconnect of those who claim a love for truth, while remaining cruel and angry people.
This is how we get to the airy cluelessness of Christians who tolerate and defend destructive and sinful lives.
In the end, I know only this: God is love. God is a community.
Should I focus all my mental, emotional and spiritual gifts on these truths alone, I should become a Saint and light a fire in the world that could never be put out.

“My Lord and my God, take from me everything that distances me from you. My Lord and my God, give me everything that brings me closer to you. My Lord and my God, detach me from myself to give my all to you.”

—St. Nicholas of Flüe

How beautiful your sacrifice.
You are power itself and you became weak.
You are life itself and you let us kill you.
You are all that is good, all that is right and you let us tear you to pieces.
You deserved nothing but love and this is what we did to you.
I am so, so grateful.
I am amazed.
In my own suffering, help me to embrace you.
Help me not be so defensive, so worried about pain and instead focus on being with you and like you.
This is your glory: not that you rose up and crushed us, but that you came down and you saved us.
I am so, so grateful.
