OUR ONLY RECOURSE
“I sought The Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4
The 34th Psalm is a psalm of David. David was a man ANOINTED, but he was also a man chased in some way his whole life. If David was not trying to be killed by his enemies, his own predecessor, King Saul, was trying to kill him. Later in life, it was not as much David’s life that was being sought after, but rather the hurt and grief applied by his rebellious children that were intent on consuming him.
The broken heart of a man is dangerous. It can cause him to be consumed to the point of breaking. It is in that state of brokenness that the spirit of hurt and grief can take over and begin to rule every thought. The difference between David and others who have the same kind of troubles and pain is written in this 34th Psalm. In spite of being pursued and consumed, David writes, “I will bless The Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
Even those of us who proclaim Jesus as Savior can fall prey to the hurts and suffering of this present world. You may be asking yourself this morning why that happens. It is simple, my friend. The devil, your enemy, desires to destroy you (John 10:10). It is in those times that the praise of God is our ONLY RECOURSE.
“O magnify The Lord with me, and let us exalt His Name together.” I know it is hard to praise God when our whole life has been turned upside down, but it is ALL WE HAVE. The emotional cures of man are temporary at best. The pity of friends is only warm in the moment. But the warmth of the Son’s light can and will give us strength even in the midst of the cruelest storms. “O taste and see that He is good.” “The righteous cry, and The Lord hears, and delivers them out of ALL their troubles.”
My friend, if you are going through something this morning that is bigger than you and it has almost pulled you under, I beg you, pick up the Word of God and turn to this 34th Psalm. Read and begin to praise God. Be calm and still in your praise, and begin to feel the RIGHT HAND OF GOD lift your burden and defeat your enemy. Trust in The Lord. Delight yourself in The Lord. Commit your ways unto The Lord, and find rest in The Lord. The praise of God is our ONLY RECOURSE.
That is what Scratchin’ and Diggin’ is all about.
