Good morning everyone! Pastor Nick here. Here recently I have been looking into New Age and New Thought “Christianity.” I put the quotations because it’s not really Christianity and honestly not really new. These practices and “revelations” have been around since the time of the Apostles and taught against as well. (Galatians 5: 19-21,
1 John 4:1-3).
New Age would involve occult practices such as tarot, crystals, astrology, enneagram, etc. Some have came out saying that these things can be practiced within the belief of Christianity. New thought is talking scriptures or Christian beliefs and twisting them to make ourselves the center of it rather than Christ. One common thought is that Christ isn’t the stating of the man Jesus and divinity but a place of consciousness we can reach to elevate our spirituality. Not only is this completely wrong biblically but it also takes away from the fact that Jesus is divine and deity.
The reason I bring this up is because I believe that as these ideas and ways infiltrate the church so they can do so in the lives of our young people. So we must teach our young people to see and understand these things so they know how to differentiate between what is really God and what is really considered witchcraft.
Youth are at an age in life where they are very imprintable. Most are looking for identity and truth, what to believe in. We must give them the Gospel, and the truth, which is Jesus (John 14: 6-7). The Bible tells us clearly to be wise, not in our own understanding, but in Gods wisdom (Proverbs 3:5-6). That is why I would say it’s not only beneficial but necessary for youth to know the difference in these things. They must be taught to stand on the foundation of the truth found in scripture & how to tell when someone is twisting it to benefit their own lives.
Let us not be afraid to stand up for what is right in the eyes of God. We are not ones who should be ashamed of the Gospel that has saved us.
