March, a month of Movement for the Hispanic/Latino churches of the NWTX Conference
As part of the Evangelistic Strategy, the food and clothing delivery ministries of the United Methodist Churches of El Buen Pastor in Tulia, San Juan in Plainview, and San Pablo in Hereford are responding with joy and gratitude to a need in their communities (Anglos, Hispanics, African Americans, Indigenous People, etc.) where these churches are located.
This March, San Juan, El Buen Pastor and San Pablo delivered boxes of food to 100 families in their respective communities. The joy we saw in the eyes of the children and the elderly has been enough to fill us with joy and thank God for allowing them to be instruments of His blessings. Also, in their monthly clothing and coat delivery program, San Juan and El Buen Pastor, gave 20 coats to the children of the school “Plainview Intermediate,” and 32 people stopped by the church to choose the clothes and coats they needed for their families.
We thank the FUMC of Lubbock who, through Michael Spaulding (FUMC Missions Team), donated money to purchase 100 boxes of food to the Food Bank and Rev. Al Martin, Assistant District Superintendent, for the connections he was able to make.
This ministry is accompanied by prayer time and Bible studies that are offered to all families who are receiving this help.
On Saturday, March 16 at FUMC Lubbock, the Lubbock District hosted a Safe Sanctuaries training for pastors and ministry leaders from Vida Abundante, Lubbock; San Juan, Plainview; San Pablo, Hereford; and El Buen Pastor and Tulia United Methodist Churches; with the participation of 23 attendees. The training was led by Jocelyn Furr who had an excellent presentation, making us work in teams. Our thanks to the FUMC of Lubbock for offering us their facilities, to Rev. Al Martin, Assistant District Superintendent and to Rev. Dr. Jorge Ochoa, director of the Hispanic/Latino Movement and Churches in Development of the NWTX Conference for the coordination of this event.
Taking advantage of spring, the ministries of Men and Women of Vida Abundante, Lubbock restarted their regular meetings. The purpose is to discern spiritually and in community, how to respond to current family challenges from both roles, working together.
