St. Benedict's Chapel

St. Benedict's Chapel St. Benedict's Chapel feeds Body and Soul 7 days a week. A hot meal, a smile, a kind word or support is always available to those who are in need. When St.

Benedict's Chapel is, above all, a church. Each Sunday a chaplain provides spiritual nourishment through prayer, communion, and fellowship. We provide free and voucher-less meals seven days a week, no questions asked. Our partners work faithfully to provide a safe and ecumenical atmosphere for the 80-130 guests served daily. Benedict's was first begun, the founder, Father Richard Barry and his wif

e were the only two individuals. They served cold sandwiches to each of the individuals who came to them. Here we are twelve years later and we are serving an average of 110+ hot meals per evening and on Sunday Mornings we have between 15 and 30 parishioners for our service, breakfast and fellowship. Benedict's has been there all these years and we will continue to serve our friends in need for as long as we are needed. We are supported solely through the volunteer efforts of 9 churches and one local business: Cast Iron Grill, First Christian Church, Monterey Church of Christ, Second Baptist Church, St. Paul's on the Plains Episcopal, First Baptist Church, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Spring Fellowship Church, St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. These partners provide, prepare, and serve meals 365 days/year. We are funded by the donations from individuals and businesses in the surrounding area.

We are so grateful to the Community Foundation of West Texas for donating food left from their Scholarship Banquet. Our friends enjoyed chicken tenders, gravy, okra, and desserts. What a treat! We value our relationship with the Foundation and appreciate all they do for Lubbock and West Texas. The extra food is extremely helpful with the increase in number of people being served. Please keep St. Benedict’s in mind if you are at an event or party where there is leftover food. We always welcome additional food to help close the hunger gap in our community.

A very special thank you to Roger Karr and Community Foundation of West Texas for bringing canned drinks left from their golf tournament. What a treat for our friends! One gentleman said “this was a very special day. I got a coca- cola”. It is very seldom our friends have a soft drink. Thank you for this blessing.

What a fun day we had yesterday joined by students from Trinity Middle school! They made sandwiches, bagged cookies and chips, made “to go” sacks, and picked up trash outside. They were hard workers full of enthusiasm and laughter. These boys and girls will be our volunteers in the years ahead and what a difference they will make in our world.

A special thank you to LCU students who came to St. Benedict’s for serve Lubbock Day! What amazing students! They helped us with so many projects that enables us to serve our friends. They worked diligently making sandwiches, bagging cookies and chips, helping prepare food for our evening meal, and even cleaned up around the building! What a blessing to have this help! Thank you LCU for sharing your students with us! They definitely made a difference.
