Here's something worth knowing if you bought firewood this year.

How you store it right now, in the middle of summer, is what determines how well it burns when October rolls around.

A few things that matter out here in West Texas:

Keep it off the ground. Even in dry weather, moisture wicks up from soil. Pallets or a rack make a real difference.

Cover the top, not the sides. A full tarp traps humidity and encourages mold. Leave the sides open so the West Texas wind actually works for you.

Keep it away from the house. Stacked against your foundation is an open invitation for termites and rodents.

Your fire in November is being made right now. Store it right and it'll burn hotter, cleaner, and longer.
