The Historic New Hope Missionary Baptist Church mourns the loss of a great man within our congregation & the Lubbock community:

Bro. Curtis Gipson

Outside of his longtime membership & serving as a deacon at New Hope, Bro. Gipson was a Coach & educator.
He led Dunbar to a state championship in 1965 & a state runner-up finish in 1968; he coached Evans High School in Slaton from 1957-61, then coached Dunbar from 1962-71.

Then he spent 22 years as an LISD school administrator, retiring in 1993 after 12 years as principal at Alderson.

Dunbar won five basketball state championships, & Bro. Gipson has the distinction of playing on the first (1953) & coaching the last (1965).

Sending prayers of comfort to Sis. Brenda Gipson & Bro. Winston Gipson, his children he shared with the late Sis. Hattie Gipson, their grandchildren, & many other relatives.

Thank you for sharing him with us for so many years.
