Beginning Monday, June 1, the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery will be open for burial services. Burials are scheduled Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The main office will be open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and visitation is daily from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. When visiting the cemetery, please be respectful of other interment services occurring. Please feel free to give us a call at 806-392-9927 or 806-392-9928 with any questions. You can also pre-register online at https://tinyurl.com/2junym9h

The West Texas State Veterans Cemetery will soon be complete.

As we move one step closer towards the completion of the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery, we're pleased to share these construction updates with you.

Updates:
✅ The VLB began bringing and storing building furnishings at the Admin Building. The furniture has been wrapped in plastic to protect it from the elements.
✅ The Memorial Walls lettering has been installed on both walls and verified to be per the construction documents.
✅ The Service Seal emblems were installed on the Committal Shelter wall.
✅ The contractor installed bracing on the Maintenance Gate to support the wood framing.
✅ The contractor removed the fittings and replaced the PVC pipe and fittings with joint restraints, as called out in the construction documents. The tee connection will be stubbed out for the Booster Pump connection.

✅ Routing and epoxy at the pond outfall have been repaired as requested.
✅ The pond liner has been repaired at the outfall as requested. Adjacent soils to be graded and seeded for vegetative establishment to prevent erosion.
✅ The sod and landscaping have started to flourish with the summertime heat coming in. The contractor installed sodding along the edges to help establish vegetative cover to prevent erosion.
✅ The fire hydrant along 50th Street has been installed and is ready to be tested by the City of Lubbock utility department.
✅ The contractor completed the rework of the Admin Building star at the entrance walkway. The flatwork joints are evenly spaced, and the trip hazard has been removed.

Soon, the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery will serve as a final resting place for America's heroes.

Sarah Weede, Director of the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery, and Norm Bearden, On-Site Representative, spoke to KCBD about the tremendous progress being made at the cemetery and its significance to Veterans in the West Texas community.
