Brothers and Sisters of Lovell 4th Ward,
I am writing on behalf of the Sánchez Family and the situation that they find themselves in right now. But first, I would like to thank all of you for what you have already done for them. The response that we have received in donations for them has been staggering. It is humbling and very reassuring to know that we live in a community with people who are so generous to those in need. Thank you!
As many of you have heard by now, it seems that due to some technicalities with the program they were going through, and the paperwork, the Sánchez family will not be able to travel to the U.S. to come live with us. I do not understand the reasons for this; I just know that it looked like everything was going to work out, then at the last minute they were denied to get on the plane. This has left them in a bad position. They have sacrificed a lot to come here and now they are left with nothing. They gave up their savings, their house, their jobs, and even their right to stay and live in Peru. And as a result, they are now being told that they have to leave Peru by February 17th with no place to go.
There is little to nothing that we can do for them besides ask the Lord for his help on their behalf. So, I would like to suggest that we do a special ward fast for them this week. Please pick a day, before the 17th, and do it as a family or on the individual level. You only need to participate if you would like, and if not, we would just ask you for your prayers.
I was prompted to put this in place yesterday, but I didn’t follow through. I’m repenting for that now. But I don’t think I understood the gravity of the situation until last night when I received some messages from them. I only hope I’m not too late with this to make a difference.
This is a very humble family with a lot of patience and faith in the Lord that he will provide. But they just don’t see a way forward right now. And through all of this they have still expressed a tremendous amount of gratitude towards us for doing what we have done. So I feel this is a very deserving family.
Allow me to be clear, we are asking the Lord for a miracle. And as impossible as it seems right now, we want them here. But most importantly, we want the Lord’s will to be done and for the Sánchez family to be taken care of, however and wherever that ends up being. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
I’m including a translated message from Sister Sánchez that she asked me to share with the ward to express their gratitude.
Best regards,
Bishop Weber
