Thanks to KUNC reporter Stephanie Daniel for diligent work and visiting our worship service last Sunday. Tonight the Loveland City Council conducts a “study session” to further examine the city’s future participation in seeking solutions

Across Colorado - and the country - fewer people are going to church. Many houses of worship have underutilized buildings and land, and some are exploring ways to repurpose their properties for community good. But these decisions can turn controversial, which is what happened recently with a church....

Zion Lutheran Church is our neighbor, geographically and in the Spirit.

By now, many of you have probably heard about the accusations from General Mike Flynn and Elon Musk that organizations like Lutheran Family Services and Global Refuge have been laundering federal money. For many years, churches like Zion have proudly supported these organizations, and will continue to do so because they do incredible work on behalf of the whole church with integrity and responsibility, and until now, with the support and request of the federal government.

One in fifty people in the United States is served by Lutheran Services in America. Global Refuge (formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services) welcomes refugees from all over the world. They are the most thoroughly vetted individuals in human history, and they are given federal resources of barely $1600 for 90 days, along with the support from staff and churches.

We have never used our social media pages to post anything political, but this is a matter of the survival of our church's organizations of charity and mercy that have existed for nearly 100 years. Flynn and Musk have made baseless accusations without any evidence. These organizations of our church have received these funds for many years, on behalf of the church and the federal government in order to do its work. Actors like Flynn and Musk are trying to divert funds that have already been approved by Congress.

Please read the public response from Global Refuge here: https://www.globalrefuge.org/news/misinformation-humanitarian-work/

And watch our ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton's response here: https://fb.watch/xxkbB5vPmF/

I trust and support these organizations, and hope you do too. More importantly, I pray that these false accusations will not hamper our church's ability to exercise our freedom of religion through loving and serving our neighbors. If you want to support these organization, you can do so by donating at the following...

Global Refuge here: https://www.globalrefuge.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/

Perhaps more importantly, please contact your representatives to speak up and ask them to stop these baseless accusations.
