In 1833, renowned American lexicographer Noah Webster—best known for creating Webster's Dictionary—published his own edition of the Bible.

Rather than producing a new translation, Webster carefully updated the language of the King James Version, replacing hundreds of archaic or obsolete words with clearer English while preserving its familiar style and meaning. His goal was to make God's Word easier for the average American to understand without changing its message.

The Webster Bible stands as an important milestone in the history of English Bible publishing and reflects Webster's lifelong passion for education, language, and biblical literacy.

Long before the Declaration of Independence declared that all people are created equal, William Tyndale risked—and ultimately gave—his life so ordinary men and women could read God's Word in their own language. His work laid the foundation for nearly every English Bible that followed, including much of the King James Bible.

The Bible's influence on America's founding is woven throughout our nation's history, and in 2026 we have a unique opportunity to celebrate both the freedom of our nation and the freedom to read God's Word.

This year marks the 500th anniversary of the first English Bible, to be printed on a printing press. William Tyndale translated and printed the New Testament in English for the first time in history in 1525. Tyndale had been forced to flee England to Germany for the work. Considered an outlaw by the Church, inquisitors and bounty hunters were constantly on his trail to arrest him and prevent this printing. Copies of his Bibles had to be smuggled on merchant ships into England. There are only 3 known surviving copies today.
