National Association of Presbyterian Clergywomen A Brief History of NAPC
Clergywomen from Seattle initiated the vision and organized the first national conference in 1986. Why become a member?

National Association of Presbyterian Clergywomen is an organization for ordained Clergywomen in the PCUSA as well as Commissioned Pastors.Others who support the aim of NAPC are invited to join also. One year later, at Stony Point, NY, By-laws were adopted and officers elected. Since 1987, conferences have been held in Louisville, San Francisco, Atlanta, Kansas City, Albuquerque, Princeton, and onb

oard the Carnival Destiny!

“Active” membership is open to all women who are teaching elders. “Affiliate” memberships are offered to men and women who support the vision, purpose, and goals of NAPC. We network, share resources, intentionally nurture and support one another, and participate in conferences that proved professional enrichment as well as opportunities for self-care. NAPC seeks to build relationships, to seek justice, and to foster relationship:

To build relationships
• by connecting clergywomen
• by accepting clergywomen
• in a fun environment
• in a safe space

To seek justice
• by advocacy
• through transformation
• in vocational equality

To foster professionalism
• by affiliation
• through resources
• by honoring clergywomen

Our Chaplain the Rev. Susan Barnes led a group of us in stole making. She brought pre-cut squares, helped us form our designs, and will put them together and mail them to us. A gift of her time, talent, and treasure which we will always treasure.

Having our Business Meeting this afternoon. A lot to be decided. Please keep us in prayer. And maybe offer up a prayer for Prezzie (USA) women everywhere. These are difficult times and we face different challenges. Yet, we bring different gifts for such a time as this.

Then do something that feeds your spirit (deep breaths, cat video, prayer, a nap, a conversation with someone who makes you laugh or affirms you - whatever Holy Spirit places in you to do).

We are just about half way into our gathering. We’ve been blessed with Worship that feeds our souls and urges us to levels of engagement that take into account our tired bodies and minds. We’ve had speakers who understand our challenges and gifts as clergywomen, and Workshops that educate and inspire us. We are clergywomen talking and hugging and praying and sharing and rejoicing in each other.

Pray for us. We are praying for you.

I just learned Sharon Yunker Deatz passed away. She was a passionate member of NAPC. She taught me the importance of having chairs with arms available for people who need them. With Yeager, she taught me the requirements for trained service dogs. I appreciated her generosity and wit. Her dear friend Janet Williams presided at Sharon's service. Here's a link to her obituary.

As you see all the lights during this Advent-Christmas season, the words of Frederick Buechner come to mind “the gospel is the tale of light breaking into the world that not even the darkness can overcome.”

God of Rainbows by Zam Walker,
from Iona: Images and Reflections

God of rainbows,
confront the cynical.
Blow away the blasé.
Fill us with delight,
that we may celebrate the WOW!
In every person, every place.
