“Timothy, because of our training, has been able to achieve his CDL license so that he can upgrade his pay and job. He is very grateful for the training we have been giving him and credits his ability to get the license thru his upgrade in being able to speak and understand English. His wife Anne is now able to start communicating with me in English . . . . I am also doing the ESL classes with another couple Timothy knows well and they have gone from speaking little English to being my best students. They started at Anne's level but have far exceeded her and now communicate at about a first grade level in English. I think they actively practice on their own the lessons I teach during the week. So I now have 4 students total and this has been a blast. All are Christians and so I have started mixing Christ into the teaching. What was really interesting is that I am now speaking even with Timothy's children. So his fourteen-year-old son came to me with this question. 'Why do you teach my parents English for free?' I was able to explain to him that Christ has called us all to serve one another; that he came to serve and not be served. He clearly understood and understood why I was doing what I was doing. Perhaps we have given birth to another servant.”

“My praises are... for this wonderful ministry that has allowed me to work with my Cuban immigrants... for providing me with the energy, time, and brain power (at my age) to prepare and teach the ESL lessons. Please pray for me to be able to continue to do this work. It has changed me in that for the first time in my life I have been pulled out of my "bubble" of a life to see others that are struggling. Please pray for Benita. She is alone in this country and really does not speak the language very well. She works at Amazon but has lots of challenges. Recently her car broke down and she had no way to get to work. She only had $300 in savings so she could not afford to get it fixed and has bad credit so could not buy another car. My husband and I had her car looked at and she is back on the road, so pray that her car continues to run... pray that through the friendship that I have developed with them, I will be able to share my faith.”

The other joyful thing is that her daughter has read through the entire Bible story book by herself. And I left my Bible with the family. Praying to God that he uses his active and living Word to transform their lives.”

“Yolanda and I have been working on reading, and while we were talking about goals and reading last week, as well as about her church here and growing up in Africa, she expressed an interest in reading through the Storybook Bible with me. Part of the goal is for reading together, part of it is Jesus conversations together, and part of it is Yolanda's own expressed desire to be able to share the Bible in a more understandable way to her children! We're starting that today and I'm so excited to see where God uses that- please pray that he does so in Yolanda's life and in her children's lives, and for language clarity along the way!”

“I have only been meeting with Nur for about a month now, but getting to know her and her family has already become one of the biggest highlights of my week! They have welcomed me into their family incredibly quickly, inviting me to stay for Iftar (breaking the daily fast during the month of Ramadan) and not letting me leave until after midnight. Her youngest two girls have given me many hugs and even a makeover by using their lip gloss for everything face-related. And, perhaps best of all, Nur let me wash dishes while she cooked dinner. This felt like a huge honor to be treated more like a friend than a guest already (Guests are never allowed to help clean!). I'm praying our friendship continues to grow over these next months.”

“On warmer Sundays, we have been doing chronological Bible storying with children from several countries. We finish the evening with S'mores. We found out that traditional marshmallows have gelatin (a pork by-product). This eliminated Muslim children from coming over. We found halal (made with beef gelatin) marshmallows at an international market. We also bought some other marshmallow roasting sticks and put green tape on them to only be used for roasting the halal marshmallows. We want Christ to be the only stumbling block, not our marshmallows. Many children have now joined in the sessions.”
