Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance PDA is the PC(USA)'s disaster response and refugee program. PDA does not receive any federal funds.

PDA is funded by gifts to the church’s One Great Hour of Sharing offering and designated gifts, we annually respond to at least 20 U.S disasters and 30 international disasters. PDA is a member of ACT Alliance, Interaction, and National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (NVOAD). We adhere to the International Red Cross Code of Conduct, and do not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion

or political opinion; we do not seek to promote any particular religious or political viewpoints. PDA works nationally through its local judicatories (presbyteries and synods). A specialized volunteer disaster team provides consultation and assistance as these regional offices design the local response and build relationships within their bounds. Internationally, PDA works through local partners, including Presbyterian and Reformed partner churches, ecumenical partners, and other faith-based or non-governmental indigenous organizations.

Grateful for our partners in Louisville KY, and for all the communities hosting conversations around the issues of eviction and homelessness!

You can learn more about the 'Evicting the American Dream' documentary, including watching the trailer and downloading the resource guide, at: pcusa.org/evicting

A recent screening of “Evicting the American Dream” in Louisville, Kentucky, brought together a panel of community leaders and advocates to discuss the obstacles facing families at risk of homelessness and how to better support them. The 2025 documentary, which was shown prior to the panel discussion, explores the systems that lead to families being evicted and notes that being evicted can leave them with a scarlet letter ‘E’ on their records that can hinder their ability to get decent housing. Flint River and Savannah Presbyteries recently sent a nine-person team representing six congregations to volunteer in Western North Carolina. They spent a week in Old Fort mudding, sanding, priming, and painting drywall in the home of a 96-year-old woman. For three team members, this was their first adult volunteer work trip. With much work still ahead, the team looks forward to continuing this meaningful partnership and hopes others will join future efforts.
“I enjoyed the coming together of different people to accomplish a worthwhile goal. I benefit by listening to other group members expressing their faith.” - John Prather, First Presbyterian, Savannah

Thank you to Flint River Presbytery, Savannah Presbytery and your congregations for your faithful support and dedication to those recovering from disasters!

For more than a decade, a humanitarian crisis has continued to unfold in the Far North region of Cameroon, leaving local communities in a prolonged state of vulnerability in terms of security, food, and nutrition. It is within this already difficult context that a devastating fire broke out on 7 February 2026 in the Ndaba camp for internally displaced persons, located in the Kolofata subdivision. Within a few hours, about 3,500 shelters were reduced to ashes, affecting nearly 1,000 households, or approximately 6,000 people.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance's Migration Accompaniment Ministries stands in solidarity with our immigrant community members being held unjustly in immigration detention centers across the country. We especially are in mourning with the families of those who have had loved ones die in immigration detention custody. Today we highlight Fairlington Presbyterian Church (Alexandra, VA) on their tribute to those who have been lost to immigration enforcement. We must pray and advocate for those who do not have a voice or are too afraid to come forward. We are thankful that congregations like Fairlington Presbyterian Church and many more Presbyterians who are standing in solidarity with their immigrant community members.
