SOLEMNITY OF MARY, MOTHER OF GOD
On this holy feast day, we take a moment as we start our new year to honor our Blessed Mother, who in her “yes” to God brought our Savior into the world to redeem us.

Today is the Feast Day of St. Teresa of Calcutta!

06/19/2022

The Juneteenth celebration originated on June 19, 1865, when the news arrived that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. It is a day that has been celebrated ever since.

Today is also the feast of Corpus Christi, the Body of Christ when we as Church give thanks for the gift of the Eucharist, and remind ourselves that we are the “Body of Christ”, wherein all are welcome.

For this reason, I am posting the Juneteenth Madonna, to remind us to ask Our Blessed Mother to intercede for us, as we continue our efforts to work together for freedom and to be her Son’s presence for each other.

I am also sharing an article from Catholic Philly, in conjunction with both celebrations which I hope you will enjoy.

At daybreak on the first day of the week
the women who had come from Galilee with Jesus
took the spices they had prepared
and went to the tomb.
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb;
but when they entered,
they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were puzzling over this, behold,
two men in dazzling garments appeared to them.
They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground.
They said to them,
“Why do you seek the living one among the dead?
He is not here, but he has been raised.”

It's very painful- almost unbearable- to watch the news coming out of Ukraine, but I find the psalms a perfect way to pray with and for the Ukrainian people. Even though they were written thousands of years ago, they are as relevant as ever because humans never seem to learn from history. But I do KNOW LOVE WINS.

It is gut wrenching to watch the news from Ukraine. Makes me cry, especially the children saying goodbye to their fathers and being carried across borders with their mothers. This is one of six murals painted at Joseph's House here in Camden- completed with the help of high school and college students near and far over the course of several years. May St. Joseph, Patron of refugees and immigrants, find room in all hearts for perseverance, courage, and hope. Long live Ukraine!

I have added ashes to the forehead of Our Lady of Czestochowa, the Patron and Protector of Poland, to offer my Lenten prayers to her as the Queen of Peace-while countless refugees from Ukraine, mostly women and children, pour over the border. How I wish I could be there to greet them with a warm hug and a holy blessing.

Happy Feast of the Immaculate Conception!
Father, you prepared the Virgin Mary to be the worthy mother of your Son. You let her share beforehand in the salvation Christ would bring by his death, and kept her sinless from the first moment of her conception. Help us by her prayers to live in your presence without sin. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen
