The Cathedral of the Assumption Choir, located in Louisville KY, sings from a repertoire of great choral literature from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, ROmantic and 20th century periods. The Cathedral of the Assumption, seat of American Catholicism's first inland diocese is one of the oldest Catholic cathedarls in continuous use in the United States. Located in downtown Louisville, the Cathe
dral is a parish of approximately 1400 households with a strong musical tradition and a commitment to continued excellence in music and liturgy. The choirs of the Chatedral have performed several times with the Louisville Orchestra and have given many concerts while touring in Itland, Ireland, Englad, France and most recently in Germany and Austria. The Cathedral Choir provides music for every 9:30 a.m. Sunday Liturgy from September through June. Except for four paid section leaders, this mixed choir of approximately forty voices is completely composed of volunteer amateurs. The Cathedral Choir also sings a a select number of weddings throughout the year. Their repertoire includes examples of the great choral literature from early chant through the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century periods. The Cathedral also offers the Cathedral Concert Series, now in its tenth year continues to provide exceptional choral and organ performances for the enrichment of the Louisville community. The series has included choral performances by the Westminster Choir, Chattanooga Boys Choir, the Rose Ensemble, and the Mainz Cathedral domchor. Therough the generosity of Dr. Paul Kelty's endowment, organ recitals remain the cornerstone of the Cathedral's concert series. These free organ recitals have included noted artist such as Divid Higgs, Stefan Engels, Perre Pincemaille, Theirry Escaich, Jacques van Oortmersen, Market Kudlicki, Todd Wilson, Massimo Nosetti, Pamela Decker and Ken Cowan.
