Update from the Barrs in Romania:
Bucha, where so many innocent Ukrainians were killed, was a place Jon visited many times in the early 90’s for meetings with leaders of the Baptist Union. He said it was a lovely area filled with many summer houses. Now – it is a place of death.
In a meeting with several other missionaries, we did something I have never experienced. We shared photos of those we knew who were killed in Bucha. Our guy in Ukraine, Sam, shared about Anatoly from Irpin Bible Church. He was a young man age 23 who was involved in youth ministry. (1st photo, pictured with his fiancée.) The words under the photo say that the last time they were together he prayed and said God we love you!.
Another Ukrainian trainer, Vitaly is in Cherkasy. He transported 22 tons of food and humanitarian aid to the Lugansk region. The goods will go to Irpin and Kharkiv. So many volunteers were there that the load was unloaded in 45 minutes! He also helped evacuate 180 people from the area.
The Ukrainian Director of YMI is Vasya Ostryi (front center of selfie photo) He is with a group that was in Irpin to help senior citizens who couldn’t leave repair their homes with windows, doors, etc. that were damaged during bombing.
Friends, there is still so much work to be done. Please continue to give to the Ukraine Relief Fund to help continue the work that our national trainers are doing to help those suffering because of the war.
