Here is the story behind the creation of the Scrubs to Skirts program:
Scrubs 2 Skirts
by Crystal Ash
Several months ago Bill preached on softening our hearts and
listening to God’s prompting. Being a believer I decided to ask God to help me better see those promptings. Several days later, on a normal Saturday I noticed I had an entire box of leftover medical scrub tops. I thought, “hmmmmm what can I do with those? I bet they would make cute skirts for my daughter.” So within an hour I had two skirts, pockets and all, made for my 6 year old. But something quickly settled into my heart. I had so many unused tops and I KNEW they could be used by somebody. And it was like I heard it, the prompting, “make them and
send them to Honduras!” YES!! And “Scrubs 2 Skirts” was born.
Along with the Honduras Mission Team, “Scrubs 2 Skirts” will be
collecting, sewing, and hand delivering skirts to the girls of Honduras. The pockets will have a small beaded necklace with a note attached that will reiterate the message of Jesus that they will have learned in Vacation Bible School.
OCC will be sending a group of “Ordinary People” to do “Extraordinary” things to Honduras in October. The medical mission will be engaging communities through medical care, Vacation Bible School, and many other God driven interactions such as “Scrubs 2 Skirts”. We are teaming up with local hospital organizations, medical supply stores, and nursing schools to extend the involvement to our community. We are asking YOU, our OCC brothers and sisters, to join us and help make “Scrubs 2 Skirts” a big impact.
“Scrubs 2 Skirts” will need used scrub tops, supplies, and individuals that can sew, cut, fold, iron and do other various assembly tasks. A table will be set up in the lobby throughout the month of August for more information, a collection area for donated scrub tops / other supplies and a sign up for our “Sew In”. The “Sew In” will take place here at the church on Friday, September 20th from 6 – 9pm and on Saturday, September 21 from 9:00 am – 12 noon to make the skirts.
As the skirts are sewn it is our prayer that Christ be “sown” in the
hearts of people. Ultimately, we would love to allow skirts to be sent with other missions in the future. Help “Scrubs 2 Skirts” serve God by serving others.
serving others.
