Renowned local blacksmith/sculptor Craig A. Kaviar has created a 6-foot metal sculpture, “Healing the Earth,” for the front plaza of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church. The art piece was made from parts of guns chopped up at safe-disposal events sponsored by Guns to Gardens Louisville and metal tools donated by members of the congregation. The sculpture symbolizes the congregation’s commitment to promoting peace, justice, and sustainability. A large crowd gathered today for a dedication of the art piece. It was inspiring and uplifting! Thank you to all who came out on this bitterly cold day to our safe disposal event! We chopped up 18 guns to be turned into gardening tools, art, and household items. We are grateful to Lynnhurst United Church of Christ for hosting and helping organize this event--our first in South Louisville.

Our next safe-disposal opportunity is a little over a week away: Sunday, November 9, at Lynnhurst United Church of Christ in South Louisville. Volunteers will be there between 2 and 4 p.m. to chop up unwanted guns. Later the gun parts will be turned into gardening tools, art, and jewelry. Please help us spread the word!

Today's visit to Lynnhurst United Church of Christ, site of our next safe-disposal opportunity November 9, went very well. The church has lots of parking space for us to set up tables and chop saws. People bringing guns will drive into the parking lot, and the guns will be removed from the back of their cars. Looking forward to another successful event!
