These are the days of Advent. The time leading up to Christmas is a good time to not only reflect on Christ's first coming but also to prepare for his return. At His first coming, the shepherds and wise men were ready, King Herod and his advisers were not. Pause each morning between now and Christmas to be ready, and to be blessed

We had over 75 children on Wednesday at our free weekly kids event. Most are international kids

THE PRESIDENT HAS NO “HOPE”?

One of the people in the news recently has been Hope Hicks. Hope Hicks is a former White House Communications Director. She has been in the employment of President Trump since August of 2014. After her recent resignation one could say that the President is “without Hope” (LOL).

That kind of an expression can be funny in that setting, but it is a sad reality for many people throughout the country. Some individuals and families woke up today facing a financial burden that they do not know how to get out of. Others felt the sting of betrayal in some form, maybe from a friend or employer that they have trusted and even sacrificed for. There are family issues and health issues that they can’t let go of. And of course all of these things can even combine together to make the load overwhelming.

You may have heard of how in the past we had a simpler time, and there may be a longing to go back to “the good old days.” But a quick study shows that these types of things have always been around.

But there is Hope, and it is real. That hope is available to every person. It is a hope found in God. That is not a Christian Cliche’, it is a statement of fact. Christ acknowledged that in this world we would have troubles, be he also said “take Heart” because He has overcome the world (John 16:33).

Overcoming was seen throughout Christ’s Gospel ministry. We saw samples when He overcame hunger by feeding the 5,000; He overcame sickness with many episodes of healing; Christ overcame confusion by presenting Good News that even a child could understand; and He overcame death on that first Easter Morning as the Angel proclaimed “He is not here, He is Risen.”
The burdens you carry are real and important. They are handled best when you trust our very real God to take you by the hand, and say with King David of old: “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him.” - Psalm 62:5 (By Ps. Ken Toczyski)

BUILDING AN OLYMPIC LIKE FAITH

For the last week the world has watched with admiration at the amazing things done by the athletes at the Olympic Games. Of course we know that the skills and strength needed to ski and skate with such speed and grace did not come instantly. These people were determined to excel. Many of these competitors have spent hours in training almost daily for many years in hopes of winning an Olympic medal.

The Christian life has many heroes as well. From the Apostles Peter and Paul of the first century, to the Mother Teresa and the Billy Grahams of our time, there have been persons who have been world changers. They have shown great skill, faith, and dedication in serving the Living Christ. They have been a part of some great undertakings.

If we are not careful, we will look at the schools, churches, and hospitals that have been built and not think about how these came into being. Just as we watch a skater land a powerful spin, but don’t think about how many falls and bruises went into learning do that move so gracefully; so we may not think of the painful sacrifice and prayer that went into laying every brick of these works.

This leaves every one of us with a challenge. No one automatically becomes a champion snowboarder, and even with effort they may never become one. No one automatically becomes a strong follower of God. But the promise of God’s Word is that if anyone will practice the daily habit of opening the Bible and applying its truth, if he or she will commit different things to Christ in prayer, and meet regularly with God’s people during the week, especially on Sundays; then anyone can build and enjoy an Olympic like faith.-- by Ps. Ken Toczyski
