Yesterday’s session, “Creating Change in Dispatch,” was packed with folks standing in the back. We discussed how to create change in our centers that is lasting and meaningful. I was so humbled that at least half of the rom had attended one of my earlier sessions and came back for more! That’s the greatest compliment a speaker can receive.

NENA 2022 was off to a great start yesterday with my talk, “Prepare Your Backpack: Emotional Survival for 9-1-1.” More than 100 professionals gathered for the session and learned how stress impacts the body and mind and what works (and doesn’t work) to thrive in public safety. Two more sessions tomorrow!

I have a palm tree in my apartment, just in time for Palm Sunday. I also purchased some Gerbera daisies that I’m starting indoors in my sunny living room before I move them outdoors. I’m excited to learn more about gardening and plants.

I’m super pumped to be speaking at the New Hampshire Emergency Dispatchers Association’s Annual Training Symposium. I’ll be debuting my talk “Maintaining True North When Things Go South” for the first time. The presentation is my most challenging yet — both for me to deliver and for those in attendance. I’m looking forward to closing out the symposium and calling us to keep pressing on when everything around us crumbles.

Well, here’s the update. I’ve accepted the position of Assistant Director of Administration and Training for Cambridge, MA Emergency Communications Department. Today was my last day as Dispatch Supervisor at the Town of Stratford and as Dispatcher at East Haven Police Department. Yesterday marked 10 years of service to the Town of East Haven and I served Stratford for nearly four years. I am thankful for the experiences I had and to have met great people along the way. I now move onto a new adventure; I’ll post more updates soon!

Last week our fall 2021 EMT class had their graduation ceremony. I spoke to the students and their families about key elements for success in EMS, reminding them of the pertinent precepts for emotional endurance and how to be an active, contributing member of the EMS community. It was awesome to hear from our class valedictorian, Jess, who spoke well and made a point to share a positive observation about each student and instructor present. I was also pleased to present an award to an EMT student, Tonya, whose conduct and growth warranted recognition. Congratulations to the Fall 2021 Class!

This was my last class as coordinator for SVEMSA as I move onto a new professional adventure. More to come soon!
