Christmas is fast approaching when we celebrate the Incarnate Baby Jesus who was born to be our Savior. The birth of the Christ Child who was born into poverty. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us… John 1:14 He was born not with wealth untold but with love of thy neighbor as ourselves. The poverty that he was born into is still with us today. Christ said, “For the poor you have always with you: but me you have not always.” Matthew 26:11 Isn’t it wonderful that like the great saints, including St. Teresa of Calcutta and St. Vincent DePaul, we can do so much to help those in need.
Recently our Gospel reading at mass was “And Jesus answering, said to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” Mark 12:17. At the same mass, the homily by Fr. Paul Scagilone told us we should think whether we are trusting in God or trusting in Caesar before spending our money. He showed us that our money says, “In God We Trust” but do we really trust in God when we are spending it. Do we really use our money to spread the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of Caesar?
Sitio’s mission is helping the less fortunate who need clothing for all ages, diapers, baby toiletries, baby equipment, sheets, pillow cases, towels and toys; as well as anything else that has been donated or purchased with donated funds to help ease their burden. It is wonderful to help the less fortunate. It is like putting a blanket over the poor little Baby Jesus laying on the hay in the manger.

People come to Sitio needing all kinds of things. They have all kinds of stories. Some need car seats and others want a simple wash cloth and towel. Their faces tell stories of a hard life with sometimes many mouths to feed. They want to work but speak very little English making their employment opportunities very limited. All have their share of heart ache but are so happy to be in America.
Sitio Clothing Ministry, thanks be to God, will soon begin its 5th year in aiding those less fortunate. When shopping for Christmas gifts at this wonderful time of year, please remember to add the less fortunate, those who have no one to help them. They come to get the essentials that we take for granted. It is by donating to Sitio we can give a towel and wash cloth or baby formula to the Baby Jesus. For Jesus said, “Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40. This is my favorite bible quote. In this life I cannot literally put a coat on Christ or can I give him a towel or a wash cloth, but I can help His least brethren. It is wonderful to be able to see a smile on someone’s face.
So far this year, Sitio has helped 1,726 adults and 2,271 children due to our awesome donors. Our operating expenses include utilities, security, maintenance, office supplies and postage. We purchase formula, baby food, diaper rash cream, baby toiletries, adult hygiene items, pack n plays, and car seats. There is no cost to St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Sitio is funded totally by our awesome donors. We are very grateful for all monetary and clothing donations received. Without our awesome donors, Sitio would not be able to assist those in need.
