You might have seen Saint Louis Cemetery featured alongside two front-page articles in the latest edition of The Record.

The Record interviewed Deacon Ned Berghausen about the Pilgrimage of Solidarity, an event which took place at the end of July and which aimed to help Catholics "connect with the story and experiences of black Catholics" β€” Much of the event was dedicated to the life of Mary Narcissa Frederick, an enslaved woman who served Bishop Flaget and was a founding member of the first African American parish in Louisville. Deacon Berghausen's research helped uncover more about her life and her remarkable contributions to the Catholic community, both during and after her enslavement. She is buried in an unmarked grave in Saint Louis Cemetery.

We will be featuring more about Mary Narcissa Frederick here on our social media throughout the months of August & September, and we hope that as more information comes available, we will be able to help shine a light on more of those whose stories deserve to be told.
