It is with deep gratitude and wonder that I celebrate 5 years of Community of Peace here in Louisa, Virginia. Five years ago today I landed here having driven across the country from Berkeley, California in a 1999 Toyota with my mother who was 92 years old. It was the beginning of a dream to create a new intentional Christian community modeled after the Taize Community in France. Every day we would sing and pray, welcome young people, hold a dialogue for peace, and serve the most vulnerable. Five years later that dream has become a reality with three monks committed for life, residents long-term and short-term, and young people from around the world visiting all the time participating in the life of prayer and work and enjoying the beautiful 250 acres of forest and meadow. Thank you from the heart to all who helped make this dream a reality and who continue to support the work of Community of Peace with your prayers, presence, and financial donations. To date we have raised more than eight hundred fifty thousand dollars toward a 1.5 million dollar mortgage. We ask for your prayers as we live into this calling to live a life following the Jesus of the Gospels. Our hearts are filled with gratitude. Alleluia! Happy Anniversary, Community of Peace!
