Levites to Be Priesthood

“1 ¶ Now these are the records of the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the LORD spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.
2 These then are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to serve as priests.
4 But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD when they offered strange fire before the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of their father Aaron.
5 ¶ Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
6 “Bring the tribe of Levi near and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him.
7 “They shall perform the duties for him and for the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle.
8 “They shall also keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, along with the duties of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.
9 “You shall thus give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the sons of Israel.
10 “So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons that they may keep their priesthood, but the layman who comes near shall be put to death.”
11 ¶ Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
12 “Now, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of every firstborn, the first issue of the womb among the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall be Mine.
13 “For all the firstborn are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the LORD.”
14 ¶ Then the LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,
15 “Number the sons of Levi by their fathers’ households, by their families; every male from a month old and upward you shall number.”
16 So Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, just as he had been commanded.
17 These then are the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon and Kohath and Merari.
18 These are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei;
19 and the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel;
20 and the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers’ households.
21 ¶ Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites and the family of the Shimeites; these were the families of the Gershonites.
22 Their numbered men, in the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, eventheir numbered men were7,500.
23 The families of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle westward,
24 and the leader of the fathers’ households of the Gershonites was Eliasaph the son of Lael.”(Numbers 3:1-24 NASB)

Can you be found obedient to what the Lord commands you and your family?

“32 ¶ These are the numbered men of the sons of Israel by their fathers’ households; the total of the numbered men of the camps by their armies, 603,550.
33 The Levites, however, were not numbered among the sons of Israel, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
34 Thus the sons of Israel did; according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so they camped by their standards, and so they set out, every one by his family according to his father’s household.”

3 from twenty years old and upward, whoever is able to go out to war in Israel, you and Aaron shall fnnumber them by their armies.
4 “With you, moreover, there shall be a man of each tribe, each one head of his father’s household.
5 “These then are the names of the men who shall stand with you: of Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur;
6 of Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai;
7 of Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab;

16 “These are they who were called of the congregation, the leaders of their fathers’ tribes; they were the heads of fndivisions of Israel.”
17 ¶ So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been designated by name,
18 and they assembled all the congregation together on the first of the second month. Then they registered by ancestry in their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, head by head,
19 just as the LORD had commanded Moses. So he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.
20 ¶ Now the sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
21 their numbered men of the tribe of Reuben were 46,500.
22 ¶ Of the sons of Simeon, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, their numbered men, according to the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
23 their numbered men of the tribe of Simeon were 59,300.
24 ¶ Of the sons of Gad, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
25 their numbered men of the tribe of Gad were 45,650.
26 ¶ Of the sons of Judah, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
27 their numbered men of the tribe of Judah were 74,600.
28 ¶ Of the sons of Issachar, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
29 their numbered men of the tribe of Issachar were 54,400.
30 ¶ Of the sons of Zebulun, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
31 their numbered men of the tribe of Zebulun were 57,400.
32 ¶ Of the sons of Joseph, namely, of the sons of Ephraim, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
33 their numbered men of the tribe of Ephraim were 40,500.
34 ¶ Of the sons of Manasseh, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
35 their numbered men of the tribe of Manasseh were32,200.
36 ¶ Of the sons of Benjamin, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
37 their numbered men of the tribe of Benjamin were 35,400.
38 ¶ Of the sons of Dan, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
39 their numbered men of the tribe of Dan were 62,700.
40 ¶ Of the sons of Asher, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
41 their numbered men of the tribe of Asher were 41,500.
42 ¶ Of the sons of Naphtali, their genealogical registration by their families, by their fathers’ households, according to the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war,
43 their numbered men of the tribe of Naphtali were 53,400.
44 ¶ These are the ones who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, with the leaders of Israel, twelve men, each of whom was of his father’s household.
45 So all the numbered men of the sons of Israel by their fathers’ households, from twenty years old and upward, whoever was able to go out to war in Israel,
46 even all the numbered men were 603,550.”

Man of Lawlessness

“1 ¶ Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,
2 that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not comeunless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
5 Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?
6 And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do sountil he is taken out of the way.
8 Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;
9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,
10 and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.
11 For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,
12 in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.
13 ¶ But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
14 It was for this He called you through our gospel, fnthat you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter fnfrom us.

Thanksgiving for Faith and Perseverance

"1 ¶ Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
2 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 ¶ We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;
4 therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.
5 This is a plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering.
6 fnFor after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well fnwhen the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,
8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
10 when He comes to be glorified fnin His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you was believed.
11 To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will fncount you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power,

Pastoring is weird. I've poured my heart and soul into people who now act like I don't exsist. I've done hours of counseling and deliverance with people who later deleted me. I've publicly honored people who chose to slander me and act like I was a villain. And then there's people I rarely have conversations with that honor and respect me to the highest degree. Some leaders have washed my feet while others have thrown dirt on my name.

Pastoring is weird. I'm too much for some, yet too little for others. The same preaching that convicts one person angers another. The same sermon that was boring to one was massively impactful to another. Praised for being so loving and graceful, yet slandered for being too loving and graceful in certain situations.

Pastoring is weird. We're accused of just wanting money, yet we're also expected to live in humble poverty like a lowly shepherd. If you have nice things, then you're greedy and materialistic. If you don't have nice things, then you must be in rebellion since God isn't blessing you. People are always asking us for our personal time, money, and resources. Yet when we set healthy boundaries to care for our mental health and our families, we're considered selfish.

Pastoring is weird. Everything you say and do can and will be used against you by anyone disgruntled, annoyed, petty, or even just bored. Every mistake is broadcasted as proof that you're unqualified, yet victories seem less talked about because they're expected. Your personal life, hobbies, interests, friendships, relationships, ministry alignments, and family are under a constant microscope and being monitored by people searching for faults and failures.

Pastoring is weird. You give everything you have and somehow still feel like you didn't give enough. You never meet certain people's expectations. You didn't do enough according to someone's opinion. And there's always someone confident they could do a better job, yet all they do is criticize from the sidelines.

Pastoring is weird. You try your best to protect the sheep from wolves and somehow in the process you end up accused of being a wolf yourself. Sometimes other shepherds who don't even know you spread lies about you and your flock.

Pastoring is weird... and yet there's so much fulfillment in precious moments. The feeling you get when someone gives their life to Christ is beautiful. When you marry a couple who met at your church, bring restoration to a broken family, or dedicate a child that mom and dad prayed hard for makes everything else worth it. When you're asked for by name to be with someone in their last moments. When you're the first person they seek when they need hope. When the healing comes. When the deliverance comes. When the breakthrough comes. When someone who thought they had no purpose gets discipled and preaches their first sermon. When the glory of the Lord fills the room and the congregation goes wild without restraint in His presence. Nothing compares to this.

Pastoring is weird. It's challenging, heartbreaking, and can be discouraging, but it's also fulfilling, inspiring, and awesomely life-changing. I don't have to do this, I GET to do this. Pastoring is not for the faint of heart. It can be brutal, but it can also be beautiful. Pastoring is weird, but I guess I'm weird too.

Encouragement of Timothy's Visit

"1 ¶ Therefore when we could endure it no longer, we thought it best to be left behind at Athens alone,
2 and we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith,
3 so that no one would be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we have been destined for this.
4 For indeed when we were with you, we kept telling you in advance that we were going to suffer affliction; and so it came to pass, fnas you know.
5 For this reason, when I could endure it no longer, I also sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor would be in vain.
6 ¶ But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always think kindly of us, longing to see us just as we also long to see you,
7 for this reason, brethren, in all our distress and affliction we were comforted about you through your faith;
8 for now we really live, if you stand firm in the Lord.
9 For what thanks can we render to God for you in return for all the joy with which we rejoice before our God on your account,
10 as we night and day keep praying most earnestly that we may see your face, and may complete what is lacking in your faith?
11 ¶ Now may our God and Father Himself and Jesus our Lord direct our way to you;
12 and may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you;
13 so that He may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints."(1 Thessalonians 3 NASB)
