Sunday, September 13 is a big day at St. James’! 🎒⛪️🌻

We’re kicking off a new season of parish life together with Church School at 9:45 a.m., followed by 10:00 a.m. Worship, including the Blessing of the Backpacks and the start of our Nursery Program.

Then stay and celebrate with us at our Parish Family Picnic at 11:30 a.m.—with food, fellowship, games, and plenty of fun for the whole parish family.

Whether you’ve been with us for years or just getting to know St. James’, all are welcome. We’d love to have you join us!

When Jesus speaks to us today and tells us, if any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me, he is talking about crosses, not thorns. He is not saying that hardships will come and you just need to endure them. He is not talking about health issues or disappointments or our feelings of uncertainty or loneliness.

Those are real and important sufferings, and God will heal all of them. But those are thorns, not crosses. Taking up our crosses is more specific. Taking up our crosses means resisting the powers of domination and oppression in our world. Taking up our crosses means standing alongside those who are suffering violence at the hands of the powerful.

Taking up our crosses means, uh, testifying that the kingdom of God has drawn near. It means blessing those who persecute us. And it means believing that our strength is made perfect in weakness.

🍞 **Wafer Making — September 10 at 8:30 AM**
Join us in the kitchen! No experience necessary and all helping hands are welcome.

🧺 **Parish Family Picnic — September 13 at 11:30 AM**
Food, fellowship, games and fun for the whole parish family! We’ll also celebrate **Blessing of the Backpacks** during worship that morning.

🎶 **Amazing Grays — September 15 at 11:30 AM**
Lunch in Ticknor Hall with a special demonstration of the flute family by Lisa Fahlstrom.

💙 **Losses & New Beginnings — Begins September 20**
Our four-week grief support group meets Sundays from 2:00–3:30 PM in the Parish Library.

📖 **New Sunday Book Study — Begins September 20**
Join Fr. Joe after the 10:00 AM service for a study of *The Spirit of Early Christian Thought* by Robert Louis Wilken.

🎨 **Messy Church Returns — September 20 at 4:00 PM**
Messy Church is back on the third Sunday of each month!

🎬 **Community Movie Night — September 25**
Doors open at 6:00 PM | Movie at 6:30 PM
Join us in Ticknor Hall for **JONAH** from Sight & Sound Theatres. Admission and concessions are complimentary!

🥾 **Footsteps in Faith — September 26, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM**
Our next hike takes us to the American Chestnut Land Trust in Prince Frederick for a morning of walking, fellowship, Scripture and reflection.

Come Sing With Us! The St. James’ Choir is back in rehearsal—and there’s always room for another voice. Whether you’ve sung in a choir for years or have simply wondered what it might be like to join us, this is a wonderful time to give it a try. Our choir helps lead our worship each week and shares in the fellowship and joy that comes from making music together.

Our Footsteps in Faith ministry spent the morning on a 4 mile hike at the Paris Glendening Nature Preserve! The Lord provided a beautiful day for hiking, fellowship and reflection…”Be still and know that I am God.”
