URGENT: A Pastoral Call for Prayer and Truth: I was not fired, I was locked out and forced out.
Dear friends of Los Fresnos and beloved church family,
With a hurting heart, I want to share that I was served an eviction notice TODAY from the church parsonage—our home. This action was taken without a church vote, without public notice, and in violation of our church constitution and bylaws, which require a two-week announcement before any special-called business meeting. No such meeting ever took place.
This decision was made by a few individuals, not the church body. The people of God, the members of First Baptist Church, were not given a voice. And yet, nearly 90% of our congregation is still gathering together, worshiping with their pastor in love and unity. They are still members, and they are doing the only thing they know to do, stay faithful.
I’ve received no wages, and I was asked to sign a letter agreeing to stay silent in exchange for two months of pay and housing. I could not sign it. I have not caused any disturbance, committed any crime, or acted in any way that would justify this.
This is not about retaliation—it’s about truth, integrity, and protecting the body of Christ. Sadly, the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Rio Grande Valley Baptist Association remain silent.
“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” – James 4:17
Where Is the Proof? Where Is the Authority?
I have repeatedly requested from their attorney—and from the men involved—proof that they own the church property, or that they hold authority over the entire church body to fire a pastor. I have received none.
“I asked the police, at the time they removed me from the church grounds, to provide any legal justification for recognizing the deacons as owners of the property, as they themselves had claimed. No such legal justification was given.
I remain barred from my workplace, from my office, and from the house of worship—not for committing any crime, not for violating any law, not for any sin or misconduct—but under threat of criminal trespass. All of this while 90% of the church membership disagrees, and while no church vote was ever held to affirm my termination.
In fact, when the church did gather, I was not removed. And yet, I am treated as though I have no right to be near the people I have loved and served.
Today, I see clearly: I have been denied due process.
My freedom to worship, to enter the house of the Lord, to sing and pray with the people I’ve shepherded—has been stripped from me without lawful cause.
And so I ask again:
Where is the proof? Where is the authority?
And now I ask more urgently:
Where is the Baptist family?
Where is the Baptist association in this? Where are those who claim to walk in the truth of God’s Word, who know that the local church is not ruled by a few, but governed by the body and guided by Christ?
Is it a Baptist family, or only a Baptist association?
Because families don’t abandon each other when things are hard. Families don’t go silent when shepherds are scattered. Families defend the truth, protect the flock, and lift up the wounded.
To my friends, I thank you—for the prayers, the love, the support, the witness of Christ I see in you. To those still standing with us: we press on. We will walk through this litigation, through this hardship, not with bitterness, but with truth and with Christ before us.
And we will continue to ask—lovingly, boldly, prayerfully:
Where is the proof?
Where is the voice of the church?
Where is the family of faith?
“Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.” – Proverbs 31:8–9
“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” – James 4:17
Please pray for my family, for the faithful believers still standing in love, and for justice to shine in the house of God.
If you feel led to stand with us, we welcome your encouragement and help.
In Christ’s love,
Pastor Daniel Perez
