Women of faith have been gathering in Orange County and Los Angeles to pray for the return of family members who have been detained or deported.

We invite people of all genders to accompany them and hold our disappeared community members in prayer. We are hurting along with them, and we have their backs.

Next week's vigil will take place in Los Angeles on Tuesday, 6/16 and will be led by LGBT+ clergy members in honor of Pride Month. The next Orange County vigil will take place on Thursday, 6/25.

This Tuesday marked one year since the Godmothers of the Disappeared formed in response to the immigration raids in Southern California.

For a year, every Tuesday at noon, women of faith have gathered in front of the Federal Building wearing pink bandanas, invoking prayer, song and testimony, to demand the release of those being disappeared by our government, and for federal agents to leave their positions and put down their weapons.

The Godmothers observed this anniversary with prayers for renewed faith in the struggle, for finding comfort in one another as a means to continue, and to never forget the people inside, who can hear the vigil from inside the building.

Detention center visitors and family members have shared that for people who are in these places, hearing people on the outside are fighting for them provides a meaningful amount of strength, so they can believe the situation they are facing will one day end.

With everything going on, we didn't want to forget to thank everyone who joined us for Giants of Justice, 2026. The room was full of the amazing faith leaders, organizers and community members (and those who are all of the above) who make up the organization that we call CLUE. This year we honored three movement leaders who have truly shown what it means to build the Beloved Community; The Godmothers of the Disappeared, Myron Wollin, and the duo of UTLA and SEIU Local 99.

We extend a special thanks to Nina Fernando and Rev. Sam Pullen for providing musical accompaniment, Rev. Tanya Lopez for emcc’ing the night, and to all the UniteHere staff at the Maya Hotel for being great hosts.

For a year, every Tuesday at noon since the immigration raids began in Los Angeles, women of faith have gathered in front of the Federal Building wearing pink bandanas, invoking prayer, song and testimony, to demand the release of those being disappeared by our government. This upcoming Tuesday, June 9 marks a year since the first vigil was held, but the call for justice has still gone unheard.

We are inviting people of all gender identities to join on Tuesday, June 9 from 12-1pm for an interfaith anniversary observation of the vigil.

The next Orange County vigil will take place on Thursday, 6/11.
