"Home is sacred. It is not for profit. Home is for building families and community," shared Pastor Cedric Nelms of Greater New Salem MBC, as workers and clergy held an action with prayer and song today in front of the soon to open Lucas Museum.

Ahead of the opening, members of the South LA community are calling on museum cofounder and LA28 board member, Mellody Hobson to be a good neighbor and support an Olympic and Paralympic Games that benefits all, not just wealthy corporations.

Women of faith have been gathering in Orange County and Los Angeles to pray for the return of family members who have been detained or deported. We invite people of all genders to accompany them and hold our disappeared community members in prayer. We are hurting along with them, and we have their backs.

Next week’s Los Angeles vigil will take place on Tuesday, 9/15 and every Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The next Orange County vigil will take place on Thursday, 9/17 and every other Thursday from 12pm-12:45pm.

Security guards for hospitals, including Kaiser Permanente, stadiums, transit agencies and office buildings are announcing an intention to vote for a strike, along with their SEIU USWW counterparts in the Bay Area. Workers are calling for improved benefits and a $30 minimum wage, citing the rising cost of living. CLUE will be joining workers in solidarity this Thursday at the offices of the LA Fed, and invite you to join us there.

Last week, clergy joined in solidarity with pharmacists represented by UFCW 770 for a nighttime vigil at a Vons in Whittier to highlight the danger of understaffing in grocery store pharmacies.

Understaffing compromises patient safety and places an unfair burden on the pharmacists and staff. Grocery store pharmacists are invested in protecting our community, exposing these risks, and securing the fair contract they deserve.

As the union prepares to return to the bargaining table, the vigil sent an unmistakable message to Vons, Albertsons, Pavilions, and Ralphs that pharmacy workers are completely united around this issue.

On September 29th, Los Angeles clergy members from different faith backgrounds will embark on a week-long, 96.5 mile pilgrimage from Adelanto to Downtown Los Angeles to call for the closure of all immigrant detention centers, and to fundraise for the Immigrant Detention Bond Fund.

We invite you to join the pilgrimage, whether for a day, the entire walk, or as a supporting congregation.

Last Friday, CLUE joined a caravan of unions and organizers for a three stop trip to different sites of negative corporate influence in the day to day life of our city. The caravan was part of a series of actions happening across California, demanding businesses stay out of our electoral politics.

Along the way, the caravan visited the offices of LA28, the organizing body of the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics, a Chase Bank location, and the Westlake Home Depot. Workers and faith leaders are united in committing to boycotts and divestment from these harmful corporate entities as long as they continue impacting our community.

As we approach labor day, please consider contributing to the support fund for the 15 workers who were unjustly fired from Mother’s Market in Costa Mesa, as they wait for a resolution of an Unfair Labor Practice claim.
