At a time when Communist rule threatened Eastern Europe, the Word of God found a home in the heart of Ida Peterfy. During a retreat, inspired & moved by God’s infinite love, Ida was deeply concerned that the Good News of God’s personal love would be made known. She surrendered heart completely to God, and on October 7, 1940, Ida’s 18th birthday, she knelt before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament at the Franciscan Church in Kassa, Hungary & vowed a life of chastity, poverty,
& obedience. This profound interior
response to God’s call became the
foundation for our religious community, the Society Devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
