This month marks 20 years of preaching ministry for me. I preached my trial sermon March 19th 2006 at Mount Zion A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Claude A. Shuford.
I am beyond humbled that God would allow a marred vessel like me to carry the mantle of ministry. It has not always been easy, there have been seasons of stretching, pruning, and pressing but my God, it has been worth it. The favor that God has placed upon my life, all my life often brings me to tears, because I know I do not deserve it. Yet in His sovereignty, grace, and mercy, He chose me. He kept me. He covered me. He corrected me. And He continues to call me.
And to each Bishop, congregation, every mentor, every friend, every critic, and every prayer warrior who has walked with me through these twenty years, thank you. You have all been instruments in the Master’s hand. So today, I simply say: Thank You God for Your faithfulness toward me.
Twenty years later, I am still standing. Still preaching. Still learning. Still growing. And still trusting that the same God who called me will continue to order my steps for the years to come.
Psalm 71:17–18 Since my youth, God you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.
