For those headed to this September, be sure to catch Susan Goldberg alongside Patrisse Cullors in the world premiere of the new documentary RE/PAIR! 🎞️

About RE/PAIR:
In an increasingly divided world, Re/Pair brings together 19 pairs of Black and Jewish thinkers, some longtime collaborators, others meeting for the first time, to engage in wide-ranging, unguarded conversations about their families, communities, shared histories, and points of difference. As ideas, fears, and personal stories surface, the film reveals what can happen when we make space to listen, connect, and keep the conversation going.

Re/Pair will have its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 3:45PM at the Scotiabank Theatre, followed by a Q&A.

Kathy Simon returns Sunday, August 30 with a new, enriching Elul workshop 🙇

Is there a conversation in your life that you are avoiding? Or a conversation you have had, maybe more than once, but it doesn’t go well? Elul is the perfect time to gain new skills, and when possible, to show up to try to repair disconnections and to start the new year fresh. The middah of zerizut, Nefesh’s focus for this High Holy Days, also comes to say: let’s get to it, let’s do it, let’s hasten to show up.

In this workshop, we’ll learn new skills for showing up with zerizut for potentially hard conversations. Drawing from the teachings of Nonviolent Communication, the workshop will offer support for finding new avenues to approach potentially difficult conversations, including both large and small group work and time for private reflection.

Because so many of us have enjoyed her teaching over the years, we’ve invited Kathy Simon, Nefesh Kin from Oakland, to be back with us. Please sign up with zerizut and to embody zerizut— we think you’ll be engaged, invigorated, and feel more resourced as we approach the new year.

From Rabbi Susan
Friday afternoon poem
As we enter Elul. Beloved.
Beloved
-E Ethelbert Miller

Please forgive me for forgetting.
I wanted to go outside and look for you.
I was told this was impossible.

I was instructed to stay indoors.
But my words for you need sun.
My heart needs air.

I love you Spring.
I miss your warmth.
Come unlock my door.
