Strongholds are birthed and dwell in deception (which are lies and false beliefs), so naturally the cure is to bring the truth in God's Word on the scene. You debunk the lies of the enemy, with the truth, which is in the Word of God!

Look Again

Today's Scripture
'Go and look toward the sea,' he told his servant. And he went up and looked. 'There is nothing there,' he said. Seven times Elijah said, 'Go back.' The seventh time the servant reported, 'A cloud as small as a man's hand is rising from the sea…'
1 Kings 18:43-44, NIV.

Today's Word
The Bible says that after the prophet Elijah prayed and asked God to end the drought, he said to the people, “I can hear the sound of an abundance of rain.”

He was saying in effect, “There is a yes from God in our future!”

Elijah told his assistant to go look on the other side of the mountain to see if there was any sign of rain. When the assistant came back, he said, “No, Elijah. There’s not a cloud in the sky. It’s perfectly clear.” Elijah didn’t get discouraged and think, “What are we going to do now? I might as well quit this prophet business.” No, he simply said, “Go back and look again.”
This happened six different times, but Elijah kept saying, “Go look again.” On the seventh time, the servant came back and said, “Elijah, I saw a small cloud in the sky. It isn’t much, just the size of a man’s hand.” Elijah’s answer was basically, “You’d better get your umbrella. Rain is coming!
Friend, like Elijah, maybe you are believing for something, and you aren’t seeing anything happen. Don’t give up, go look again! If God has promised it, He will do it. It won’t be long until you see His showers of blessing pouring down on every area of your life!

A Prayer for Today
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness. I believe that You are working behind the scenes even when I can’t see it. I choose to keep believing. I choose to look again until I see every promise fulfilled in Jesus’ name. Amen

Precious In God’s Eyes
January 30, 2014 — by David C. McCasland

Read: Psalm 116
Precious in the sight of theLORD is the death of His saints. —Psalm 116:15
Bible in a Year:
Exodus 23-24; Matthew 20:1-16

In response to the news that a mutual friend of ours had died, a wise brother who knew the Lord sent me these words, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints” (Ps. 116:15). Our friend’s vibrant faith in Jesus Christ was the dominant characteristic of his life, and we knew he was home with God in heaven. His family had that assurance as well, but I had been focused only on their sorrow. And it’s appropriate to consider others during their grief and loss.
But the verse from Psalms turned my thoughts to how the Lord saw the passing of our friend. Something “precious” is something of great value. Yet, there is a larger meaning here. There is something in the death of a saint that transcends our grief over their absence.
“Precious (important and no light matter) in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints (His loving ones)” (The Amplified Bible). Another paraphrase says, “His loved ones are very precious to him and he does not lightly let them die” (The Living Bible). God is not flippant toward death. The marvel of His grace and power is that, as believers, our loss of life on earth also brings great gain.

Today we have only a glimpse. One day we’ll understand it in the fullness of His light.

So when my last breath
Shall rend the veil in twain
By death I shall escape from death
And life eternal gain. —Montgomery
Faith builds a bridge across the gulf of death.

Insight
Having been delivered from the jaws of death (v.3), the psalmist thanks God for answering his cries for help (vv.1-2,4-8). Grateful for the Lord’s rescue, he asked: “What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits toward me?” (v.12). In response, he recommits himself to obeying and serving the Lord (vv.9,13-19).

Daily Devotional
String Cross Reminders
Thursday, January 30th, 2014
Read Deuteronomy 6:4-9
[Jesus] said to [the crowd and his disciples], “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”
— Mark 8:34 (NRSV)

I have retired from teaching physical education, but I found a new sense of purpose a few years ago. David, a camp volunteer, taught me how to make string cross necklaces. Each cross takes four minutes and costs about four cents to make. David gave these to summer campers as a gift, a symbol of God’s love and forgiveness for each of us. He still makes string crosses by the thousands to give to whomever he encounters. I was inspired by David to take up making string cross necklaces as my purpose and mission for Christ. I think wearing such a symbol could be a good reminder for others and for ourselves to reflect and radiate the love of Christ to those around us. So how will we represent the cross of Christ — the love he gave us as a sacrifice for our salvation and the forgiveness of our sins? We can wear the cross as a reminder to share the meaning of the cross in words and in acts of love.

Prayer
Dear Jesus Christ, we want to remember your great love for us. As we wear a symbol of your cross, help us follow you in steps of love. Amen.
