Can you truly know God — or are you only meant to believe?
Clement of Alexandria (c. 150–215 AD) refused to pick a side. Born to pagan parents, he searched the philosophers of his day for truth, met the gospel, and recognized it as the truth he had been chasing all along. He went on to lead the Catechetical School of Alexandria, one of the earliest Christian schools in the world.
His answer: true knowledge is not opposed to faith. It’s a gift that builds on faith, deepened through discipline, virtue, and the pursuit of God. Faith opens the door. Understanding is what you find once you walk through it.
He pointed to Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38–42). Martha, the active life — serving, doing, showing up. Mary, the contemplative life — sitting, listening, absorbing. Both matter. But the deepest growth often happens in stillness, not just in motion.
Nearly 1,800 years later the question is still ours. Are we pursuing God with our whole mind, or only as far as it stays comfortable?

We talk about the calendar. Not our hearts.

After years of counseling couples, I keep seeing the same six things quietly wreck marriages — and nobody's naming them out loud. The slow drift into familiarity. The baby that reshuffles everything. The fights that win the argument and lose the marriage. The intimacy nobody taught us how to talk about.

None of it means your marriage is broken. It means it's normal — and normal needs a plan.

Reflection — “Laughter That Heals”
There’s a verse tucked into Proverbs that doesn’t get quoted as often as it should: “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17:22). Healing isn’t only found in solemn prayer — it’s also found in a shared joke over coffee, in a room that laughs together before it prays together. Laughter softens what silence sometimes hardens. It reminds us we’re not carrying this alone, that joy and faith were never meant to live in separate rooms. If you’ve been in a season that’s felt heavy, let today’s dad joke be permission to laugh — not instead of healing, but as part of it.
A Prayer for Laughter and Healing
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for the gift of laughter — for the way it lightens a heavy heart and reminds us we are not alone. Where there is pain today, bring Your healing. Where there is heaviness, bring Your joy. Let laughter rise up in this community not as an escape from what we’re carrying, but as evidence of Your grace carrying us. Restore joy to anyone who has forgotten what it feels like. Turn mourning into gladness, just as You promised in Your Word. May our laughter honor You, and may it draw others closer to Your presence.

Every immigrant church in America carries a flavor of home. 🌍✝️
Ask someone who grew up in one, and they won’t describe a building — they’ll describe a rhythm. A way the gospel got planted in them that no seminary textbook fully captures. Here are three that shaped me:
1. The 5 AM altar. Before phones buzzed, before the day demanded anything of us, someone in that church was already on their knees. Prayer wasn’t a scheduled program — it was the family’s first language of the day (Psalm 119:147).
2. Singing wasn’t confined to Sunday. We praised in kitchens, in cars, in hard seasons at home no one else saw. Worship was a lifestyle, not a service slot (Psalm 98:1).
3. The Word as absolute truth. Growing up, Scripture wasn’t presented as “one perspective among many.” It was the plumb line every other claim to truth had to be measured against — no exceptions, no asterisks (Matthew 24:35).
That kind of formation produces a particular kind of leader. In my own church growing up, I watched leaders who: — Served sacrificially, often leading a congregation and working full-time jobs, with no complaints about the cost — Practiced radical hospitality — every visitor left fed, and usually with leftovers packed to go — Covered people in intercession before they ever announced a need out loud — Mentored quietly, investing in the next generation without needing credit — Stayed unshaken in conviction, even when it wasn’t culturally convenient
The faith that traveled with our families wasn’t just doctrine. It was a way of leading, loving, and staying faithful under pressure. Swipe through — which one hits closest to home for you? 👇

You can be fluent in two cultures and still feel like a guest in both. 🕊️

That tension is real for so many of us leading in the church while straddling two worlds. But here’s the truth: your belonging was never issued by a government office. It was settled before you were born (Ephesians 1:4-5).

Wherever God has planted you — lead like you belong there. Not by proving yourself twice as hard. By resting in whose you are first.
