A profound honor to stand alongside the men and women of the LAPD at the 2026 Memorial Ceremony. Together, we gathered to remember, honor, and celebrate the lives of the 241 fallen officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our city.

As a Chaplain, my heart is continuously moved by the resilience, dedication, and profound sense of family within this department. From sharing a moment of reflection with Chief Jim McDonnell to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our officers, this day was a powerful reminder that while our heroes may be gone, they are never, ever forgotten.

A particularly humbling moment for me was spending time with the wife of Sergeant Shiou Lin Deng. Sgt. Deng lost his life on June 23, 2025, when he stopped on the 405 Freeway to help motorists involved in a crash. He died a true hero—putting the safety of strangers above his own, just as he did for over 26 years serving our city. Holding space for his family, and for all the families who carry this heavy grief, is a sacred privilege I do not take for granted. 💙👮‍♂️🕊️

"I didn't ask for this, I don't want to be here, but I’m here... so Lord, use me." 👇

Think about the Apostle Paul. God allowed him to be thrown into prison, and Paul completely understood the reality of his situation. His attitude wasn’t one of defeat, but of surrender: “Well, Lord, now I’m here and I can’t go anywhere. So use me where I’m at for Your glory.” See, that’s exactly where God wants all of us to get.

You might look around your current circumstances today and think, I don’t know why I’m here. I didn’t ask to be here. I definitely don’t want to be here. But you know what? You are there. And the Lord knows it.

When we shift our perspective from "Why is this happening to me?" to "God, use me in this no matter what," everything changes. He is the God who fulfills His purpose for us, and He is masterfully working all things together for good.

No matter where you find yourself today, God can use it. Let Him.

📖 Scripture to anchor your heart today:

Philippians 1:12-14 – Seeing how chains can actually advance the gospel.

Psalm 57:2 – Crying out to God Most High, who fulfills His purpose for me.

Romans 8:28 – Knowing that all things work together for good to those who love Him.

I went to The Horseless Carriage Restaurant at Galpin Ford expecting a great meal, but I accidentally ended up getting a masterclass in servant leadership instead. 🙌🍽️

Seriously, our server was so unbelievable, they deserved a standing ovation. It got me thinking about Mark 10:45—"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

If Jesus can humble Himself to serve humanity, and my server can handle my endless refills with that much grace and joy, what’s my excuse? Shoutout to the incredible staff at the Horeseless Carriage for feeding my belly and accidentally inspiring my soul today. 🚗❤️

You may not know this, but I actually hold a historic title: I was officially the oldest high school pastor in Harvest history. Yes, while the kids were figuring out their futures, I was mostly figuring out how to stand up without my knees popping.

But looking back, my time at Harvest holds some of the absolute fondest memories of my life. I will always be incredibly grateful to Pastor Greg Laurie for believing in me, pushing me out of my comfort zone, and encouraging me to take that giant leap of faith to start my own church. He taught me to never stop the mission of sharing the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ—even if my high school ministry days are behind me!

Speaking of the mission, the Harvest Crusade is coming up fast on July 11, 2026, at Anaheim Stadium.

It’s going to be an incredible night. I want to challenge you to look around your neighborhood, your workplace, or your dinner table. Invite that unsaved friend, family member, or neighbor. Bring them along, buy them a hot dog, and watch how God can use a simple invitation from you to change someone’s destiny for eternity.

STOP CRAWLING. 🛑🐛

The world is constantly trying to squeeze you into its mold. It wants you to think like everyone else, stress like everyone else, and stay grounded in the " dirt " of old habits and toxic mindsets.

But Romans 12:2 issues a different command: BE TRANSFORMED.

A caterpillar doesn't become a butterfly by " trying really hard " to grow wings. It goes into the cocoon and undergoes a complete metamorphosis.

It's messy. It's internal. It's total.

You can't live a " butterfly life " with a " caterpillar mind."

Stop trying to " fix " your exterior and start letting God renew your interior. The cocoon might feel tight and the change might feel uncomfortable, but you weren't created to stay a worm. It's time to take flight.

God didn't tell Ezekiel to speak only if people promised to listen. He said, "Speak my words... whether they listen or fail to listen." (Ezekiel 2:7)

We live in a rebellious world, and if we're honest, we've got some of that rebellion in us too. But grace changed the narrative. Now, we carry a message that's bigger than our fears or the world's "no." 📢

Who can you share a word of hope with today? Don't worry about the results, just plant the seed. 🌻

Unmerited. Unconditional. Unstoppable. ❤️

We were all in the same boat—broken, falling short, and far from perfect. But God doesn't call the qualified; He qualifies the called through a choice He made long ago: The choice to love the unlovable.

I was "doing everything wrong," yet He opened the fold and said, "Welcome home." We don't love to get His attention; we love because He gave us His everything first.

The "Me, Myself, and I" Trap 🪞⛓️
We’re living in the era of the Unholy Trinity: Me, Myself, and I.

In a world that screams "self-expression is king," it’s easy to let personal individuality reign supreme. Our culture has become obsessed with the grind of self-improvement and the ladder of personal achievement, often at the expense of the people right in front of us.

But here’s the truth: While growth is great, a life lived inward is a life lived small.

Finding the Balance ⚖️
The Apostle Paul modeled a different kind of heart—one that looks outward even when things are tough. In Philippians 1:7-8, he writes:

"It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart... God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus."

Paul wasn't focused on his "personal brand" or his own comfort; he was consumed with a deep, Christ-like affection for his community.

Is your self-improvement serving your ego, or is it equipping you to serve others?

Are you choosing your own "truth" over the needs of your neighbor?

Let’s trade the isolation of the "Unholy Trinity" for the beauty of the Body of Christ. Bring those personal goals into balance and start longing for the people around you with the heart of Jesus.
