LMU Latino Alumni Association

LMU Latino Alumni Association Thirty years ago, MAAA was formed by a core group of Mexican American alumni with the goal of providing scholarships to deserving Latino students at LMU.

The LMU Latino Alumni Association is a legacy of the Mexican American Alumni Association, and has served the university, the community, its students and its alumni for more than 35 years. Since 1981, our community has been committed to transforming the lives of Latino students in their pursuit of a quality education, ensuring LMU is accessible and affordable for all. With the support of alumni, fr

iends and corporate sponsors, as well as the university’s 2:1 match, we have awarded more than 1,400 scholarships for more than $3 million. In this tradition the LMU Latino Alumni Association will provide much needed scholarship support, professional networking and mentorship opportunities to future generations of Latino leaders. As we honor the 30th anniversary of the Mexican American Alumni Association, we give thanks to our founding members and to all who have partnered with us to strengthen our legacy over the years. The LMU Latino Alumni Association looks forward to the next 30 years, as we come together as a community, celebrating various Latino cultures and ethnicities, to fulfill our mission of supporting deserving students at LMU.

✨ Familia, this is what being for others looks like. ✨

Our LAA familia came together at Dolores Mission for LMU Day of Service last month. 💙❤️

From sharing meals to sharing stories, our alumni showed up con mucho corazón. They lifted up our community and lived out LMU's mission in the most beautiful way. 🙌🌹

Hear it straight from our alumni in the reel: what "men and women for and with others" truly means, why service is woven into our cultura, and how Dolores Mission continues to be a sacred space of comunidad. 🕊️

Because being a Lion isn't just about where we studied. It's about how we show up. Siempre juntos. Siempre para los demás. 🦁✨

Gracias to Dolores Mission for welcoming us home, and to every alum who said "presente." Esto es familia. Esto es LMU. 💪🤎

🦁💙 What a day to be a Lion! 💙🦁

This year's brought together 180 Lions across 14 states for one unforgettable day of giving back. ✨

From coast to coast, our alumni rolled up their sleeves to serve their communities — packing meals 🥫, cleaning up parks 🌳, supporting local shelters 🏡, and proving that the Lion spirit doesn't fade after graduation. 🎓

To every alum who showed up, suited up, and served — THANK YOU. 🙌 You embodied our mission of being people for and with others, and the world is better because of it. 💛 Already counting down to next year. Who's in? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

Trailblazers. Visionaries. Lions. 🦁✨

Mary Salinas Durón ’75 and Armando Durón ’76 helped found MAAA, now the Latino Alumni Association, and have spent decades shaping its legacy through leadership, service, and corazón. ❤️

Recently honored with the Visionary Award at the LAA 45th celebration (pictured here with President P**n), their commitment to culture and community continues to shine. 🌟

This fall, their dedication was celebrated at the LMU Laband Art Gallery with Seeing Chicanx: The Durón Family Collection — a tribute to their passion for preserving and uplifting Chicanx art. 🎨📚

A legacy of LMU leadership, Lion love for the community, and art that tells our stories. 💫
